Calgary metalcore outfit Victoria Lies are preparing to release their debut full length album, ‘Vendetta‘, on October 30, 2026 via Black Cat Records.
Built as a concept driven record, the album combines theatrical storytelling with heavy grooves, melodic passages and an experimental approach that takes the band’s metalcore foundation into some unexpected territory.
Across ten tracks, ‘Vendetta‘ explores power, violence, deception, trauma and transformation through the mysterious story of Victoria.
Rather than treating the concept simply as a loose lyrical theme, the band have constructed an evolving narrative in which individual songs reveal different parts of the story, while the music shifts alongside its emotional development.
The first glimpse into this world came with ‘Red‘, a chaotic and emotionally volatile track depicting the pivotal moment when Victoria becomes Victoria.
Driven by urgency and groove, the song established both the darker atmosphere of the album and the importance of its central character.
Now Victoria Lies have followed it with their second single, ‘Weaving Webs‘, accompanied by a new music video.
Unlike ‘Red‘, the song steps outside the central Victoria storyline and turns its attention toward the real world, addressing deception, the circulation of information and the increasing difficulty of maintaining false narratives in an interconnected society.
Vocalist Brett Hetherington explains the idea behind the lyrics:
“We can all see the terrible things that are happening. The same lies that have been told for decades no longer hold any ground, and we can now see who the real villains are. We will not forget.”
Musically, ‘Weaving Webs‘ also demonstrates the band’s willingness to experiment beyond conventional metalcore.
Guitarist Rory Fitzsimmons describes the song’s introduction as an experiment influenced by Attack Attack!, with an unusual initial idea eventually developing into part of the finished track.
The result combines melody and groove with heavier sections while adding another dimension to the sound established by ‘Red‘.
That willingness to move outside familiar territory continues throughout ‘Vendetta‘.
Alongside the album’s heavy guitars, technical elements and dynamic melodies, Victoria Lies incorporate influences from pop, trap beats and even saxophone.
These additions are used within the wider concept rather than simply as stylistic decoration, helping the individual tracks develop different identities while remaining part of the same narrative.
Producer Scott Bennett worked with the band to bring those contrasting elements together, giving the album space for both its heavier passages and more unconventional ideas.
The combination of conceptual storytelling and musical experimentation makes ‘Vendetta‘ an ambitious first full length release, with Victoria Lies using their metalcore foundations as a starting point rather than a restriction.
With ‘Red‘ opening the door to Victoria’s story and ‘Weaving Webs‘ revealing a different side of the band’s songwriting, ‘Vendetta‘ is shaping up as a debut that places narrative, atmosphere and experimentation alongside the sheer physical impact of modern metalcore.
