Orion is the musical project of British multi-instrumentalist Ben Jones, a seasoned musician with a deep passion for progressive rock.
Drawing inspiration from the genre’s intricate storytelling and dynamic compositions, Jones leans heavily into the songwriting aspect of prog, crafting concept-driven works that resonate with both depth and emotion.
Since 2002, he has played in various bands, showcasing his versatility across multiple instruments.
After a hiatus beginning in 2015, Jones returned to the music scene with a renewed creative vision.
In late 2019, he embarked on writing his first solo concept album, ‘The End of Suffering‘, a deeply personal exploration that would become the foundation of Orion.
The recording process spanned throughout 2020, overcoming technical challenges that delayed its completion, but in June 2023, the album was finally released.
Its success was undeniable, with physical copies selling in 16 countries and the album earning a spot on several top album lists.
In August 2024, Orion has released its highly anticipated follow-up, ‘The Lightbringers‘.
This album expands on Jones’ sonic landscape, incorporating rich string arrangements, orchestral horns, and choirs, and features striking artwork by legendary artist Hugh Syme.
With a more expansive sound and vision, ‘The Lightbringers‘ promises to be another bold step in Orion’s journey, further establishing Ben Jones as a creative force in modern progressive rock.
