Brazilian death metal powerhouse Crypta enter a new chapter, announcing guitarist Victoria Villarreal as a permanent member and completing their formidable four-piece lineup.
The addition marks not just a lineup update, but a significant step forward for a band that has rapidly risen to global prominence since its formation in 2019.
Based in Los Angeles, Villarreal brings with her a strong musical identity shaped by years in the underground scene.
Known for her work as the driving force behind progressive death metal outfit Syrebris, as well as her involvement in the Chaos Rising Project, she blends technical precision with a deep-rooted appreciation for old-school extremity.
Her connection with Crypta is not entirely new – having already joined the band on previous tours as a guest guitarist, she proved to be a natural fit both musically and personally.
That chemistry is something frontwoman Fernanda Lira emphasizes:
“We are very happy to welcome Vicky to Crypta. Our chemistry is excellent both on and off stage, and her contribution to the band so far has been incredible. We are sure this will be a very amazing chapter for all of us!”
With Villarreal now fully integrated, she is already contributing to the band’s songwriting process, signaling that her impact will extend well beyond the stage.
Crypta’s current momentum builds on the success of their 2023 album ‘Shades of Sorrow‘, a relentless and finely crafted release that blends classic and modern death metal with touches of blackened intensity.
Since its release, the band has toured extensively across the globe, solidifying their reputation as one of the most powerful live acts in extreme metal today.
The upcoming ‘Shades of Sorrow: Final Rites – European Summer Tour 2026‘ will serve as both a celebration and a closing chapter for this era.
Kicking off on June 5 at the Rage Against Racism Open Air in Duisburg, Germany, the tour will see Crypta take on festival stages, headline shows, and high-profile dates alongside acts such as Slaughter To Prevail, Kittie, and Sepultura.
As they prepare to say goodbye to one chapter and move toward the next, Crypta stand stronger than ever – revitalized, unified, and ready to push their sound even further.
