The Saxon band TURBOKILL around ex-Alpha Tiger singer Stephan Dietrich is back with their second album.
The new album ‘Champion’ will be released on 27 September 2024 on SPV/Steamhammer worldwide digitally as well as on CD and vinyl.
TURBOKILL have dedicated themselves to European Power Metal.
Characterised by strong melodies and Stephan Dietrich‘s memorable voice.
A short tour at the beginning of the year, under the banner ‘New Wave of German Metal’ with the bands SINTAGE and FIREBORN in the package, highlighted the quintet‘s instrumental skills and first-class Power Metal.
After their show at the ‘Backstage Club’ in Munich, ‘Rock Hard’ magazine counted TURBOKILL among the ‘elite of Teutonic steel’.
The band‘s musicians naturally wanted to live up to this honour.
Revitalised by the energy of their live performances, the band subsequently recorded a suitably inspired album under the direction of Lars Rettkowitz (Freedom Call) in his Emperial Sound Studio.
Stephan Dietrich comments on the new album ‘Champion’ as follows:
“Our aim is to create a modern heavy metal sound that is catchy and captivates the listener. The right hooklines must not be missing. We want our audience to have a lot of fun listening and singing along at our concerts. We want our new album to have a lot of positivity and motivational vibes to encourage people to rise above themselves and become the best form of themselves. I think in times like these, which are characterised more than ever by negative headlines, this album is exactly what people need right now.”
The band comments on some song from the forthcoming album:
‘Time To Wake’:
“The energy and the striking riff that leads the song right at the beginning would have made ‘Time To Wake’ a perfect opener. It was one of the first songs to be finalised for the new album but we didn‘t know where the journey would take us. That‘s why we decided to release the song as the first single after our standstill due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as a kind of wake-up call. The song is about breaking out of the hamster wheel, listening to your inner voice and going in search of yourself.”
‘Tear It Down’:
“Your thoughts are your limit. If you believe you can do something, you will do it. Often we don‘t do what we really want out of life because we are afraid of failure or don‘t want to leave our comfort zone. This wall needs to be to tear down. With a strong hookline, a catchy melody and a pounding beat, this statement should be underpinned.”
‘Power Punch’:
“A party song at its best. As we were still lacking a clichéd hymn of praise for Heavy Metal, we naturally wanted to fulfil our duty and create a song that everyone could sing along to.”
‘Shine On’:
“The idea for this song had been floating around in Ronny‘s head for a long time. Now the time had come to realise it in this ballad. As he had been confronted with the subject of death in the past, and we as a band had been confronted with it recently, we wrote this song to honour all those loved ones who are no longer with us and who look down on us from the stars.”
‘Overcome’:
“When times change but you hold on to the past, it is often impossible to move on in life. The song deals with the problem of mourning old days, going round in circles mentally and not being open to the future. This final track is intended as a wake-up call to break out of this pattern.”
