Tokyo ‘dirty thrashers‘ Straenge launched in the vibrant Tokyo underground metal scene in 2013.
Musically, the band is known in the Tokyo underground scene for their unique blend of performative technicality, unconventional harmonic phrasing, sudden time changes, and old-school thrash and death metal riffs.
They are often compared to bands such as Death, Coroner, Voivod, Atheist, Forbidden, and others.
Their lives shows are fun and energetic, with frequent unexpected cover performances of classic metal bands such as Death, Exodus, Metallica, Kreator, Motorhead, and more.
Under their original name ‘Strange‘, the band released three demos on cassette tape and digital formats:
‘Thanks, Thrasher!‘ (2015), ‘Thrash Carnival‘ (2018), and ‘Thrash Medicine‘ (2020).
As a special nod to old-school thrash fans, each cassette demo had bonus B-side tracks which were only released on the cassettes.
Near the end of this era of three demo tapes, the band added an ‘e‘ to their name to become Straenge.
Straenge’s debut full-length album ‘Filthy Microbes‘ was released in Tokyo on cassette tape in March 2023.
A subsequent digital release on Bandcamp was then followed by a CD version release in March 2024.
The CD version of the album was released by Tokyo’s well-regarded underground label Captured Records and includes two exclusive live bonus tracks.
Straenge are now planning their sophomore record, title ‘TBD‘.
They are hitting the studio in late 2024 and expecting to release the album in the first half of 2025.
The album will feature recent material which the band has played live, including several unreleased songs.
The style will expand upon that of their first album, and the band has stated they hope to grow to new levels of musicality in the new album.
