We know demons as legendary creatures – but sometimes they seem more real to us than we would like.
In their new single ‘Malphas,’ the Berlin post-hardcore shooting stars Future Palace combine mythological symbolism with the very real abysses of an earthly emotional world.
Even the introductory staccato riffing announces with the darkest timbres the most harrowing three minutes the band has recorded by far.
While Future Palace had repeatedly written with hitherto unknown heaviness on their second album ‘Run’ which was released in 2022, ‘Malphas’ superlatively completed this development.
An incomparable, massively produced set of instruments, together with the brute screams of singer Maria Lessing, create a trembling sound drama that can hardly be described satisfactorily with the label “post-hardcore” but is ensnared by clanking synthesizer coldness as well as industrial and darkwave elements.
This almost otherworldly-sounding composition does not serve Future Palace as an end in itself but rather unmistakably reflects the dimension of content of ‘Malphas’, which requires such a sound.
“I’m really losing my patience / I’m possessed by a Malphas,”
says the chorus, which sums up a feeling of loss of control in a few words.
The sung and eponymous Malphas is a demon figure from centuries-old tales that appears in the form of a raven and takes its victims bit by bit like a virus.
With this image, Future Palace tell the battles that do not take place in stories, but in the real life.
“With its power, our new song ‘Malphas’ is intended to represent the recurring struggle and the necessary patience with oneself and one’s inner demons,”
comments singer Maria Lessing on the song, giving it a note of hope despite all the brute force of the sound.
Because even among productions that are increasingly shocking in terms of sound, Future Palace’s music can still be understood as a musical catharsis in which inner abysses can not only be experienced but also fought.
‘Malphas’ is the first single Future Palace have released since last year’s album ‘Run’.
The band recently accompanied Electric Callboy on their European tour.
A first European headline run with 23 stops in 9 countries has been announced for this fall; the first shows are sold out or upgraded.

German post-hardcore band
FUTURE PALACE
released single/video
‘Paradise’

The Berlin post-hardcore trio Future Palace are back with full force.
Their new single ‘Paradise’ manifests a profound musical development with a much more massive sound – for the first time shouts and down tuned guitars expand the sonic and emotional repertoire of the band.
Reminding of metalcore heavy weights such as While She Sleeps, their new sound delivers an unparalleled exciting force with engaging vocals and furious temper.
“For me scream vocals are one of the most emotional ways to express misery and anger”,
vocalist Maria states.
“When I started to write the lyrics for ‘Paradise’, I was unsure whether I really want to realize them in this way or if I’m even able to. But eventually the decision to do it helped to achieve a completely different emotional depth.”
With this sonic evolution Future Palace produce a track that deals with the serious search for a proverbial paradise und the simultaneous fight with depression and sluggishness.
The contrast that derives from the lyrics is expressed in the music video of the single, directed by Pavel Trebukhin who worked with bands such as Imminence, Landmvrks and Novelists FR.
Created was a visually highly impressive portrayal of the changing emotions represented in the song:
the mournful atmosphere of a funeral service meets the literally staged paradise and makes clear how confusingly multidimensional the tasks of life can be.
As well as the debut album ‘Escape’, ‘Paradise’ was produced by Annisokay guitarist Christoph Wieczorek at his Studio Sawdust Recordings in Halle, Germany.
Future Palace are one of the most aspiring post-hardcore acts in Germany.
They already worked with Arising Empire for their debut ‘Escape’ and gained several million streams for their songs on the well known streaming platforms.
In early 2022 they will join Annisokay on their European tour.
