Passengers In Panic is a Heavy/Folk Metal band based in Athens, Greece, which was formed in December 2019.
The uniqueness of the band’s sound comes from the mixture of heavy metal and traditional -mainly Greek- instruments and rhythm patterns.
The Macedonian gainda, the kaval, the laouto, the violin and the daouli create the folk atmosphere that connects all the pieces together.
From the first listen of the songs, it is obvious that the source of inspiration for the lyrics is man himself and the various situations one can experience, such as toxic relationships, human violence, the fight for survival, injustices, but also issues of social content.
During the difficult period of crisis due to global COVID-19 SARS pandemic, ‘Leap Of Faith‘, a track about Eleni Topaloudi and femicide was the introduction and the first acquaintance with the material of Passengers In Panic.
They managed to release their maiden album of the same title one year right after their creation, in December 2020 via Sleaszy Rider Records.
Their collaboration with accomplished Greek actor
Dimitris Fragioglou was also important, where he added depth to the songs ‘Nakba‘ and ‘Leap Of Faith‘ through his narration.
Their first live show was charity and all proceeds were given to the victims of the devastating fires throughout Greece and especially in Evia in the summer of 2021.
As a special guest behind the drums was Eleni Nota, drummer of the Spanish band Ankor and ex- drummer of the Brazilian thrash metal band Nervosa.
During 2022 the band set out to perform in various regions of Greece (Larissa, Athens, Evia, Thessaloniki, Heraklion for Over The Wall Festival, Ioannina, Kozani,
Patras), but also abroad at the Gothoom Open Air Festival in Slovakia, sharing the stage with many bands of the global metal scene, such as Kataklysm, Suffocation, Draconian, Memoriam, Moribund Oblivion, Aeonian Sorrow and many more.
In 2023 they won the Music Competition ‘George Manouselis‘ of the Chania Rock Festival and in the summer of that year they shared the stage with Paradise Lost, Geoff Tate and Sakis Tolis.
In September of the same year together with Krotalias, Void Droid and Khirki they participated in a charity concert this time to raise money for the flood victims of Thessaly and in October they participated in the Rock N’ Iasi Festival in Iasi, Romania.
In March 2024 they returned to Romania, but this time in Bucharest for the Psychosounds Metal Ladies Night.
On April 16 2024 they released the cover of the Greek traditional song with the participation of the great Greek director and actor Yiannis Tsortekis best known for the successful Netflix series ‘Maestro‘ and Garifalia Liana Bardis, granddaughter of Apostolos Hadjichristou via Protasis Music.
‘Kaixis‘ was the first single from their second album, titled ‘Amnesia‘, and marks the beginning of a new era for Passengers In Panic.
The vocals of ‘Amnesia‘ were recorded by Yohanna (Ioanna Galani), the guitars by Lela Argyri, the bass by Lefteris Christou and the drums by Fivos Andriopoulos.
For this second album the band worked with Psychon, guitarist of Septicflesh, who did the mixing and mastering of the album at Sound Abuse Productions Studio.
As mentioned before, Yiannis Tsortekis contributed to the tracks ‘Kaixis‘ and ‘Erase Me‘ as a singer and a narrator.
The Greek actor and director is best known for the successful Netflix series ‘Maestro‘, as well as for his success in many other well-known Greek series and films, such as ‘Fonisa‘ and ‘The Chaos She Left Behind‘ a short film that won the second prize in La Cinef at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
He also had a leading role in the ancient tragedy Iketides and performed at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
Christos Antoniou, guitarist of the symphonic death metal band Septicflesh has contributed greatly with symphonic orchestration for the song ‘How to Breathe‘.
The photo shooting for the upcoming album was done by Stella Mouzi, who has worked with Septicflesh, The Magus, Nightstalker and other bands.
Her photos have become covers for Metal Hammer Greece.
