Psychedelic Kraut/Berlin School Duo SOUNDS OF NEW SOMA announce new album ‘The Story Of Sam Buckett’.
‘The Story of Sam Buckett‘ is their 13th album, a journey that reaffirms their unique sonic identity.
The lead single, ‘Liquide Gravitation‘, hooks you right from the start.
A sharp, attention-grabbing intro segues into a smooth electronic-rock rhythm, setting a steady mid-tempo pulse.
The groove is thick and immersive, pulling you deeper into a soundscape where ‘liquid gravity’ feels almost tangible.
‘Liquide Gravitation‘ starts with a cool sidekick that transitions into an electronic rocking midtempo sound.
The intrinsically driving song makes ‘Liquide Gravitation‘ almost physically palpable.
Here, neo-krautrock and psychedelic harmonize in a in a cosmically perfect way.
‘Beyond The Acid Ream‘, the first album by the sound tinkering duo, was released in 2014.
The album, with its seemingly floating long tracks, was often associated in the press with music from the Berlin School, Tangerine Dream and Krautrock in general.
In the scene, it quickly achieved a certain cult status among fans of psychedelic music.
The album ‘Moebius Tunnel‘ followed in 2016.
From then on, the sound became more experimental and a mixture of electronic songs and psychedelic rock characterised the upcoming releases.
In addition, the duo increasingly worked with guest musicians (for example Andreas Lessenich – saxophone and Armin Schopper – drums), which further enhanced the Sounds Of New Soma concept.
By 2023, the duo had released 12 albums, a 10″ and a 7″.
‘The Story Of Sam Buckett‘ is now their thirteenth album.
Guest musicians are Armin Schopper (drums) and Steffen Gründel (saxophone).
Their music is a psychedelic frenzy that draws on elements of classic Krautrock, electronic soundscapes and experimental structures.
Hypnotic rhythms meet spherical synthesiser sounds, driving guitars meet unexpected soundscapes.
Their compositions are organic and develop with the ease of free improvisation, without losing their stringency or depth.
With Sounds Of New Soma we experience Krautrock in a form that is both familiar and completely new.
On the new album, the duo takes us on the indefinite journey of scientist Sam Buckett into the infinite expanses of the cosmos – both outer and inner.
The album tells the story of Sam Buckett, a US scientist who was already researching the possibility of manned space travel in the 1920s.
He presented his research findings several times to high-ranking government officials, who dismissed them as irrational.
In the end, Sam Buckett was ignored by the government and ridiculed by his colleagues.
Nevertheless, he continued his research in a secret laboratory on Rhode Island.
A few confidants helped him with his research.
Over the years, the small team developed various methods for possible manned space travel and eventually set about building a spaceship called ‘Quasar‘.
With ectoplasm on board as food and an iron will to discover new galaxies, his trail was lost after the successful launch in March 1929.
His few loyal colleagues kept silent about the research and took the secret of Sam Buckett to their graves.
Sam Buckett was forgotten and nobody living on earth knows his story.
It remained secret and closed and no one learnt of his research and what became of him.
Sounds Of New Soma transcend genre boundaries with ‘The Story Of Sam Buckett‘:
their music is a homage to the pioneers of Krautrock, such as Neu!, Can and Tangerine Dream, and at the same time a glimpse into the future of the genre.
In their sonic alchemy, influences from psychedelic, ambient and space rock merge into a unique sound that penetrates deep into the senses and creates an almost trance-like atmosphere.
The duo are masters at taking the listener on a journey – sometimes meditative and introspective, sometimes ecstatic and escalating.
The music of Sounds of New Soma is an experience, a constantly changing flow that makes every moment appear in a different light.
For all those who are ready to embark on a sonic adventure, the duo offers the perfect soundtrack universe:
here, the limits of listening are explored, thoughts are abducted and transported into a new, dazzling cosmos.

The duo of Alex Djelassi and Dirk Raupach have created a special work.
Thematically based on the art form Fluxus, ten different songs were produced:
Rarely has a SONS album been so catchy and so full of and characterized by sound experiments as well as harmonies.
‘Fluxus 2071’ is a creative highlight in the band history of Sounds Of New Soma.
“Welcome to our Fluxus-inspired happening ‘Space, Time and Climate Change: A Journey Through Dimensions’. First of all we will deal with northern lights and moths, which will take us on a journey through space. Suspect – hear for yourself. We will be in an abstraction of the universe and observe the shimmer of the stars, as we fly through the Vuh. The cookie machine will take us through different eras, experiencing man-made climate change can be experienced. We will see the double yolk of the past in the macula and classify the not as art. Finally, we will approach the Tannhäuser Tor in a state of keyif, while becoming aware of how our actions affect the Fluxus. Will we pass through the Gate of Change to set ourselves on the path of a better future? In short, our happening will be an interactive and immersive experience. We will be influenced by the abstraction of the universe of being in order to experience the existence of the not in Fluxus.”

‘Schimmer’
‘Schimmer’ is the first single from the upcoming album ‘Fluxus 2071’ by neo-krautrock duo Sounds Of New Soma, to be released fall 2023 on Tonzonen Records.
The new single is performed by the Sounds Of New Soma duo and very special guest Steffen Gründel on saxophone.
‘Fluxus 2071’ is already the 13th album of the two musicians and yet again represents a very special step in the career of the band project.
While the last album ‘Musique Bizarre’ still Tonzonen label bands were brought on board for songs, so Alex Djelassi and Dirk Raupach have now again worked almost completely alone in the home studio Helmtown intensively on sounds.
Many sequences and melodies, abnormal tone sequences and spherical sounds further an excellent result has come about.
Sounds Of New Soma at its best.
As the first song of the new album ‘Schimmer’ is deliberately an uncharacteristically short song.
As short as catchy and captivating in its perception, the melody and the accompanying saxophone immediately remain positively in the listener’s consciousness.
An almost transcendental experience.
The song is the bridge to the whole.
The bridge to the rest of the album, which finds its continuation exactly in this way.
Forthcoming Sounds Of New Soma album ‘Fluxus 2071’ will be released this fall.
