Backbone Slip (Live)
Mally and The Hayburners from Norwich, UK, have dropped their new single ‘Backbone Slip‘, accompanied by a live video clip.
Earlier in 2025, the four-piece released ‘Bible‘ and ‘Good For Nothing‘ – the latter being a richly layered soundscape that showcases the band’s dynamic range.
The track builds from the thunderous rhythm section of Matt Argyle (bass) and Luke Roche (drums) to the sweeping, arena-ready guitar lines of Simon Evans.
Frontman Tom Malachowski delivers raw, heartfelt vocals – gritty and soulful, with a timeless rasp that feels lived-in and real.
Speaking about the song, Tom shares:
“‘Good for Nothing’ was written while thinking about my day job and the struggles that come with it. Working outdoors in all weathers, life on the shovel isn’t easy. Sometimes you just feel broken, asking yourself, ‘Is this all I’m good for?’ But we all do what we must so we can do what we love – and provide for our families.”
The track is elevated by Kitty-May’s haunting backing vocals and a cinematic string arrangement from Helen Barnes, all tied together with touches of piano and organ courtesy of producer Gavin Bowers.
