DOL
released single
‘Dead Note’
composition and lyrics by Eero Kaasinen
arrangement by Eero Kaasinen, Hannes Härkönen, Kari Meetoniemi, Jyrki Vanhanen, Osmo Lassila
Finnish melancholic dark metal band DOL has released the single ‘Dead Note’ from their upcoming EP to be released later this year.
Vocalist-guitar player Eero ‘Mc’ Veri backgrounds the new song:
“Tragedy… Death… Sorrow… It can suck the life out of you. If you have faced it, you know how it is. Our family faced a huge tragedy two years ago and that is how this song got written. I have always known the best songs are born out of the worst moments of our lives; I actually have tattoo on my forearm saying ‘I=ART=PAIN’ as a reminder for that. Ever since I wrote this song, I have felt that this truly is the best song I have written so far. Most personal and meaningful. The song itself came about quite easily, I wrote almost the entire structure, melody, and all the lyrics in one go. Of course, we finetuned it later as a band to be what it is now. ‘Dead Note’ is also the debut song for our new keyboardist called Cantor-O, who did amazing job here with his pianos and soundscapes, that really put the song to a new level.”
Other musicians on the record were the familiar lineup from previous DOL releases:
Eero ‘Mc’ Veri on vocals and guitar, Hades Faith on second guitar, Jykä ‘Low’ on bass and Catsy on drums.
“Production on this song was really different compared to our last ep. We went to an actual studio, instead of using our home studios and did all the recording there, except for synths. We had our engineer/producer Arti Waine helping us on the recording part and he gave some good advice or two there as well. This time we also didn`t use almost any samples/programmed elements, that has been our thing in the past and we recorded real drums and amps instead of digital ones. It seemed to fit the song better and we always go with what serves the song best first, not what is the most convenient. That said we might go right back to more programmed elements on our upcoming ep, that this song will be part of as well… Let’s see. Tuning wise, we went down to drop C, that is a bit heavier sounding tuning than the regular drop D that we have used on our previous work. There are also new elements on the song, such as acoustic guitars and almost opera-style of singing, influenced by Nightwish.”
The mixing was done by the talented young mixing engineer called Antony Potenza of Antony Potenza productions.
“This guy has done some amazing work on the field of modern metal, and he was awesome to work with. In fact, so awesome, that we agreed to work with him for this upcoming ep of ours, that we are now on process of writing the last bits for. The end product ‘Dead Note’ is just an amazing song and we can’t wait to hear what our audience thinks about it and can’t wait playing it live on our upcoming shows.”

Finnish dark metal band DOL didn`t want to just sit back and watch the world burn during the covid pandemic, instead they used the lockdown and sudden spare time to write their second ep called “Amor Brutale”.
Like before, the music and lyrics were mostly writen by the guitarist/vocalist Eero “Mc” Veri,
although this time there was some different methods used as well, like in the song “Pain Walk With Me” that was made by jamming on the band rehersals, as for the others, you could say the basic structures came from Mc and then the whole band put their input into making the songs
to what they are now.
Also there were a lot of different arrangements tested and a lot of demos done before the band went to the actual recording sessions.
The actual recordings were done mostly in the bands own studio.
DOL went through a few all nighters, while tracking the instruments, it all had to be perfect!
It was clear from the start that the sound had to be different, than on the first ep, more heavy and to use a lot more samples and programmed elements in the post production.
The use of programmed drums was also something, that was decided early on in the production, best example of these being in the song “Dead by September” that is a song about the fall and seasonal depression, that is very common in Finland.
Since the “Amor Brutale” songs are bit more metal and darker, than its precursor, it was important to keep the same recognizable DOL sound still there. First single from the ep "Lillith
s Song” might be the closest to the precursors sound, at least lyrically it is staying in the same gothic romantic atmosphere, with its biblical and vampyric themes. Love and it uglier side is also a big theme on the ep and so is the mind and it
s darker side.
The second single “Hand of Hate” is lyrically a self reflection about the voice in our head, that tells us we are no good and casts judgement over all our doings, some call it ego, some call it devil on the shoulder, some the hand of hate.
This song is also the opener on ‘Amor Brutale’ and should introduce the ep`s theme right away for the listener.
Like said before, the ep was almost completely recorded in the bands own studio, but the rest of the production was done elsewhere.
In the early stages of the production DOL got a real metal professional involved into the project,
as Stratovarius guitarist Matias Kupiainen joined in, as a co-producter and recording enginer(mixing/mastering).
The ep was done in full collaboration with Matias,
who often gave priceless advices on production and arrangements and made the songs sound trully awesome.

Dark metal band DOL from Finland releases their second EP “Amor Brutale” later this spring.
Now they have released second single ‘Hand Of Hate’ from the upcoming mini album.
This song was originally written back in the late 2020 by Dol vocalist/ guitarist Eero ‘Mc’ Veri,
who wanted to find a new sound, that would define the musical direction for the new ep.
The result was heavier and darker stuff, than the bands previous work.
Song also features much more programmed synths and samples.
Lyrically the song is a dark self reflection about how it can sometimes feel like you dont deserve happines and that all the happines you might have will just end in tears.

Finnish dark metal band DOL releases their second EP “Amor Brutale” later this spring.
Now the single and music video of a track “Lillith’s Song” is released.
DOL’s guitar player and singer Eero Veri backgrounds the single:
“Couple years ago I heard the story of Lillith for the first time and I was fascinated by it. I had hear the name all around in pop culture, but never knew the whole story. Lillith is the mother of all vampires and demons, according to some wife of lucifer and the first wife Adam in christian mytology, although almost any reference to her was completely cut from the bible as we know it. The latter being the most fascinating claim for me, I’ve always heard of Eve but never any wife or even woman before her. According to the legend, Lillith was Adams equal, not made of his ribs but created just like him. She was too dominant and did not submit to Adam, so he asked god for another wife and so, Lillith was sent to hell and given to lucifer. In the song I try to reference her as a (vampire like) entity that takes over the female in the song and her spouse feels at first that she has this coldness inside because she wont submit to her but at the end notices that things are much better doing so. There is more of that vampire side of things mixed in there on the lyrics as the woman in the beginning is thinking should she bite the man, turning him also to a vampire, but would that have too big of an effect on their love? Would she completely rule over him after that? All she wants is to be his equal partener… On the musical side of things, we try to dive deeper into dark rock and goth themes and sounds, still keeping the core same as before. There are also definedly much more synths amd programmed drumbeats than, before also trying to mix some violins and cellos there too. The songs post-production, mixing and mastering was done by Matias Kupiainen of Stratovarius, who is largely behind the overall sound of the track.”
