The Finnish modern metal band Volucrine released a new single ‘Riptide’.
The track is taken from the upcoming fourth studio album ‘ETNA’, which is set to be released on February 16th 2024 via Inverse Records.
Vocalist Jupe Velin comments:
“‘Riptide’ is the story of a life lost in a storm of mental distress and pressure. There is still hope for a recovery, but the journey to the surface is getting longer by the day as the bottom inches closer and closer. Or is the bottom only an illusion as well? A mere landmark on the way to the endless depths below? We have been saying that we’ve returned to a heavier expression with the upcoming album and ‘Riptide’ really lives up to all expectations in that regard. If our soon-to-bereleased album ‘ETNA’ is a kind of survival story of a fragile psyche, ‘RIPTIDE’ serves as a prologue bursting with explosive power. We’ve injected the song with a generous helping of punk attitude and hardcore energy to spice up our familiar alternative metal formula. So the course is clear! The crew of Volucrine welcomes you to board this dilapidated vessel sailing through the surges of a broken mind!”

The modern alternative metal outfit VOLUCRINE hailing from Kouvola, Finland has released a new single ‘Old Friend’ from their long-awaited new album, which will be released later this year.
The band’s singer and songwriter Jupe Velin says:
“The old friend in the title by no means describes the best friend from your childhood, but a difficult mental predicament that you thought you had already overcome. Everyone lives with past traumas, but to properly process them, you need to find the correct tools. If left untreated, they will slowly become that ‘old friend’ whose next visit is difficult to predict.”
After their previous album, ‘Skywards’ (2019), the band have taken a bold step towards a more modern and heavier sound.

Volucrine are a Finnish alternative metal band with an undisputed attitude and a style to match the erratic human mind.
The band makes their music with a therapeutic mindset and aspire to resonate with just about anyone with its humane themes;
there are no dragons flying or swords clanging in the band’s lyrics.
Born from the grey shadows of their hometown and the coldness of Kymijoki, Volucrine’s strength lies in its ability to combine Finnish melancholy and sense of melody with the expressive language of te chnical and modern metal.
Deep and personal lyrics accompany the crushing low guitar parts and rhythmically versatile drum arrangements.
The ensemble is tied together with a dialogue of extreme vocal styles, so that not a single tone from the palette is left uninterpreted, from the black of Kouvola’s licorice to the grey of the concrete walls of Volucrine’s hometown.
The band has been working diligently on their new album “ETNA” and two singles from the upcoming LP have already been released, in addition to a relentless cover of Blur’s classic “Song 2”.
The title song “ETNA”, which borrows its name from the volcano, introduces Volucrine’s more classic mid-tempo and riff-oriented style, accentuating the band’s return to a heavier expression, while the corona-era power song “Combatant” boldly pushes into the realm of modern alternative and contemporary metal.
The band has updated their arsenal and 7-string guitars have taken the lead to create the band’s heaviest album ever.
“ETNA” is bound to be released later this year.
