‘Distant Waves’

Composer: Teemu Liekkela
Lyrics: Tony Kaikkonen
RED ELEVEN once again redefines their musical boundaries with their third single ‘Distant Waves’.
The song simultaneously evokes feelings of confusion and admiration, and is an excellent fusion of complexity, djent-influenced riffs, and progressive rhythm, all while maintaining subtle melodic sensitivity.
The combination of raw emotions and delicate melody creates an enchanting paradox that will have you listening to the song again and again, discovering new layers with each listen.
The vocalist of the band, Tony Kaikkonen, explains the message of the song:
“The song is about ‘awakening.’ It’s about realizing how many things that we take for granted may actually be something entirely different in reality. As a sub-theme, it references people’s selfishness and pursuit of self-interest without caring about the outcome.”
‘Distant Waves’ is released with a visually stunning music video directed by Arto Kettunen.
Kettunen mentions that the vision for the video came to him while watching the Smurfs.
The video was filmed at the home of Petteri ‘Spöde’ Vaalimaa, the bassist of RED ELEVEN, in Varkaus.

‘Destination Unknown’

Red Eleven continues to showcase their renewed sound by releasing the second single ‘Destination Unknown’.
Heavy but smooth with a bunch of screaming vocals.
Yet the song is clearly recognizable as a Red Eleven track.
The lyrics describe the transience of life.
The writing for the new material took place during the pandemic, when Teemu Liekkala and Tony Kaikkonen started gathering more regularly to reflect what was next for Red Eleven.
The motifs of the songs started coming together easily and the apocalyptic atmosphere of the pandemic set the mood right from the start.
A pivotal role in the new sound of the band during the creative process was the fact that Teemu decided to drop his guitar to F-drop tuning.
Riffs are therefore deeper than ever, but still catchy!
The music video is created by Arto Kettunen featuring dance artist Tuisku Talvikki.
“I wanted to combine dance as an art form with a music video of a heavier section and play with contrasts. The end result is rough but sexy, just like Red Eleven”,
says Kettunen.
As for the song itself, the band describes it as a deeper presentation of the band’s renewed and heavier sound.
There is more distorted vocals than before, but attention has also been paid to the softer sound.

‘Blackbird’

Red Eleven introduces their renewed sound with a new single ‘Blackbird’.
Heavier, metal-flavored with a nod towards modern prog metal sound.
Yet the song is clearly recognizable as a Red Eleven track.
The lyrics reference a dark connection to the afterlife.

The song ‘Blackbird’ was born rather swiftly.
Teemu wrote most of the song in fifteen minutes and during that time Tony came up with the lyrics.
The creation process was exceedingly fast, which may be the reason why the song is also faster than the past Red Eleven tracks.
The music video for the ‘Blackbird’ single was crafted again in cooperation with Red Eleven’s trusted director Anssi Korhonen.
Korhonen describes the video making process:
“The original plan for the video was quite different from the final product. For production reasons, we went back to the basics. Atmospheric, cinematic and twisted. A truly classic music video.”
Band’s bassist Petteri Vaalimaa:
“Director’s original vision for the video was a bit more ambitious but we think the end result supports the song’s story and atmosphere.”
The video was shot at Vaalimaa’s home in Varkaus.
