Montreal metal trio Ombra will release their Debut EP ‘Night Terror‘ on September 14, 2026, inviting listeners into a dark and increasingly intense journey through fear, control, obsession and the human mind.
Conceived as a complete five track experience, the EP reflects both the band’s personal experiences and their observations of a world that has undergone enormous change and turmoil over the past decade.
For Ombra, ‘Night Terror‘ is not simply a collection of songs.
The EP was written as a reflection of their own feelings, experiences and observations, while also addressing some of the major events and developments that have shaped the last decade.
Social unrest, media influence, personal struggles and psychological pressure all find their way into the record, but the band deliberately avoids telling the listener what to think.
Instead, Ombra want their music to encourage people to explore their own minds, form their own opinions and express themselves freely.
Art, speech and music can all become ways of processing what is happening around us, and ‘Night Terror‘ represents Ombra’s own contribution to that conversation.
The concept is built around a carefully structured progression.
The five tracks are intended to be heard in sequence, with each song taking the listener deeper into a different aspect of fear and loss of control.
The journey begins with ‘Hysteria‘, which confronts the chaos of the modern world and examines themes of government control and media influence.
From there, the EP moves into more personal territory, exploring obsession, the pursuit of perfection and the destructive consequences of chemical escapism.
The descent ultimately reaches its most intense point with the title track, ‘Night Terror‘, which applies the idea of Murphy’s Law to the human psyche.
Everything that can go wrong inside the mind seems to go wrong, leaving the individual trapped inside an experience that becomes increasingly difficult to escape.
Rather than offering a conventional resolution, Ombra leave the listener with ‘So It Goes‘, an instrumental conclusion that provides space for reflection after the psychological intensity of the preceding tracks.
Its message is ultimately one of acceptance and perseverance, regardless of whether life’s experiences are positive or painful, keep going, make peace and live.
The artwork follows the same conceptual path, focusing on individual phobias and fears and the way seemingly insignificant details can transform dreams into night terrors.
It provides a visual counterpart to the EP’s central idea, that fear can emerge from places that are not always immediately visible.
The story behind Ombra is almost as organic as the concept behind their music.
Giuseppe ‘G‘ Criniti and Marco Sisti had previously worked together in the hard rock and progressive project NRTH, but in late 2020 they decided they wanted to pursue something heavier.
Marco’s cousin, Nico Angelo Sisti, had also recently left Hidden Pride and joined them on drums.
The three musicians already shared a long history.
G and Marco have known each other since they were toddlers, after their families came to Canada from Italy and became lifelong friends.
All three grew up in Lachine, attended the same schools and were already connected through family friendships and the local music scene.
Ombra therefore developed less as a calculated new project and more as a natural continuation of relationships that had existed for decades.
Musically, the trio brings together old school thrash, sludge, groove metal and touches of psychedelic rock.
Their approach is built around heavy grooves, energetic performances and a strong rhythmic foundation.
That rhythm often provides the starting point for their songwriting. Ideas develop through jam sessions, melodies and extended solos before gradually becoming fully formed songs.
The result is music that is designed to hit physically while still leaving room for atmosphere and emotional weight.
The band’s connection to Montreal’s metal community is also reflected in the production of ‘Hysteria‘, which received its first mix from JF Dagenais of Kataklysm.
With ‘Night Terror’, Ombra have created a record that is deliberately darker than a straightforward collection of heavy songs.
It is a journey from external chaos toward internal fear, with each stage bringing the listener closer to the psychological centre of the EP.
And while the full five track experience will ultimately reveal how effectively that concept comes together, one thing is already clear, Ombra are not interested in making music that simply tells people what they want to hear.
‘Night Terror‘ is an invitation to listen, question, reflect and ultimately find your own way through the darkness.
