After more than a decade of silence, Finnish metal band Malummeh are stepping back into the spotlight with the release of their self-titled comeback EP, arriving on May 28th, 2026 via Inverse Records.
For a band whose story once seemed unfinished, the release feels less like a nostalgic reunion and more like the beginning of an entirely new chapter.
Originally formed in 2004 in the Helsinki metropolitan area, Malummeh built their sound around an aggressive yet melodic fusion of different metal subgenres, balancing raw heaviness with emotional intensity.
The band quickly gained momentum during the mid-2000s, culminating in the release of their debut album ‘Revival‘ through Spinefarm Records in 2007.
But despite the promising start, internal tensions gradually pushed the group apart, eventually leading to their split in 2011.
What followed was more than ten years of silence – until old conflicts were finally left behind in 2022.
As the members reconnected, the initial idea was simply to revisit a collection of unfinished songs that had been sitting untouched for years.
Instead, those forgotten recordings sparked something much bigger.
The material was reworked, expanded, and in some cases completely rebuilt, eventually evolving into the four-track EP now carrying the band’s own name.
Rather than sounding like relics from another era, the songs on ‘Malummeh‘ feel surprisingly urgent and contemporary.
The EP combines crushing heaviness with carefully balanced dynamics, shifting between explosive intensity and more spacious, atmospheric passages without losing momentum.
Lyrically, the material explores themes shaped by uncertainty, societal change, and the psychological weight of modern life.
Topics that have only grown more relevant with time.
One of the defining aspects of the release is its completely independent creative approach.
Recording, production, and mixing were all handled internally by drummer and producer Valtteri Kallio at Soundwell Studio, giving the EP a focused and uncompromising identity.
That self-sufficient mindset also reflects the band’s renewed philosophy:
less interested in trends or nostalgia, and more committed to creating honest, emotionally varied metal on their own terms.
In many ways, the ‘Malummeh‘ EP serves as both a bridge and a reset.
It reconnects the band with ideas first born during the early 2000s metal era, while simultaneously pushing their sound toward something more mature and versatile.
The sharp edges and aggression remain intact, but there is also a stronger sense of clarity and purpose running through the material.
For Malummeh, this release is not simply about reopening the past.
It is about finally giving unfinished songs the life they always deserved.
And proving that some stories are worth continuing, no matter how much time has passed.
