Finnish heavy rock band I.F.A is set toe release their second studio album ‘Tiimalasi‘ on August 8th 2025 via Inverse Records.
Earlier on in 2025 I.F.A had released already four singles (‘Tiimalasi‘, ‘Pedon kieli‘, ‘Intiaani‘ and ‘Kalervo‘) as a teaser for this album.
The band comments on the single ‘Tiimalasi‘:
“The composition of the album’s title track has been a long-standing idea of a versatile slower piece, the different sections of which have found different chord progressions for the guitar strings while meditating. When the composition was completed, it began to sound suitable for lyrics like this. People have often heard talk about the passing of the sands of life, and the theme of the song reflects this. It feels like in today’s world, perhaps even more people are trying to fight aging and gain more years of life at any cost, but the grim reaper will find even the best escapees.”
The band comments on the single ‘Pedon kieli‘:
“The lyrics of the song are based on Janne Tulonen’s novel of the same name, which will be published on the same day. The song aims to follow the novel’s reflective story of growth, with its successes and disappointments, tailwinds and setbacks, and the conflict between good and evil in each of us. The novel’s main setting is I.F.A.’s home town of Vihti, which gave the band the opportunity to explore and present a familiar neighborhood also through the music video filmed for the song. The melody was pleasing with its wistful but hopeful tone. The long melody notes at the beginning reflect the lingering, tormenting atmosphere of eternity that we, the tormented, feel inside until the end of our lives. The melody also provided an excellent platform for playing a melodic guitar solo, which works nicely with the beautiful filming environment of the song’s music video.”
The band comments on the single ‘Intiaani‘:
“Right from the beginning, the chorus immediately brought to mind the Indian theme. A chocolate bar commercial started to come to mind, where an old Indian goes to his deathbed on a cliff ledge, but after tasting the bar, he starts laughing. The idea was refined to honor the Indians’ appreciation for nature and add some old Indian wisdom. Since ‘Tiimalasi’ is a darker and heavier album in terms of themes, ‘Intiaani’ counterbalances that arc with a slightly more major-key song.”
I.F.A was founded in 1985 in Vihti.
Aapo McMillan and Timo Supperi were the founding members, and Jouni Kaunisto was brought in as a singer.
The band’s name was derived from the East German Industriverband Fahrzeugbau (IFA) car brand, whose cars were manufactured between 1948 and 1956.
The music of the early days of I.F.A was punk-influenced.
Over the years, the sound took shape into the current heavier form without forgetting the band’s roots.
The band’s activities took a break in 1989, until it was reactivated in 1999.
The current line-up took shape when guitarist Tom Heskell joined in 2019 and drummer Herra Koivuniemi in 2023.
‘Kumarra‘, ‘Panssarimorsian‘, ‘Pimeää‘ and ‘Taiteilija‘ singles released in 2023 – 2024 gathered promising streaming numbers as a self-published artist and received airtime on Radio Rock, among others.
In 2024, the band signed a recording contract with Inverse Records.
