New Noise Magazine:
“The nostalgic whistles, the storytelling approach of singer Lariyah Perrin, and the overall atmosphere of the song take the listener on a hypnotic journey. The song is the band’s third track before they drop their new album, which already seems like it will be a feast for the ears. Pushing the repeat button is the only way when the highly engaging, beautiful song ends.”
Rock Meeting:
“It may be true that Lariyah’s personal and dramatic story pushed her to see life from a somewhat different perspective. Her dark words, at times, attest to this. Through the darkness of West American history, is this some kind of introspection on her part? I will conclude by writing that this album is the result of a fusion of dark blues rock and Southern-gothic rock, carried by an expressive voice, powerful guitars, and a universe where the Wild West meets shadow and rebellion. For this album, 9/10 is essential.”
A&R Factory:
“If DieveNoire should be recognised as anything, it should be as an unreckonable cultural force, wielding music as a conduit for their ethos, one that scratches beneath the superficial and strikes at the cerebral. Their latest seminal single, IDGAF, delivers an intimately candid rum-soaked vignette of a soul clawing for freedom through the rebellion of living authentically, sacrilegiously in the eyes of many, yet chasing redemption through defiant selfhood.”

Some bands are formed in rehearsal rooms, others through years of shared experience.
DieveNoire began as a vision inside the mind of vocalist and songwriter Lariyah Perrin.
Originally conceived as a one-person project built around simple rhythms, tribal-inspired elements and haunting vocals, the idea gradually evolved into something far more ambitious.
What started as a stripped-back blues-driven concept eventually grew into a full band, combining dark storytelling with the power and intensity of heavy rock.
The turning point came after the release of the debut single ‘Gunslinger in Black‘.
Although originally intended as a solo recording, the overwhelmingly positive response convinced Lariyah that the project deserved a complete lineup.
Drawing on years spent within the rock and metal scene, she assembled a group of experienced musicians whose diverse backgrounds helped transform DieveNoire into a dynamic and distinctive band.
That evolution was accelerated through an unexpected encounter with acclaimed Swedish producer Jakob Herrmann, known for his work with artists such as In Flames, Machine Head, Devin Townsend and Evergrey.
After hearing the band’s early demos, Herrmann encouraged a heavier musical direction, expanding the original blues-rock concept with more powerful arrangements while preserving its emotional core.
The result is a sound that balances atmospheric blues, Southern Gothic moods and hard-hitting rock with remarkable confidence.
At the heart of DieveNoire’s debut album, ‘The Story of a Gunslinger‘, lies a cinematic concept inspired by one of Lariyah’s vivid dreams.
Set against the backdrop of the American frontier, the record follows the mysterious journey of an elusive gunslinger through the eyes of a woman whose fascination gradually turns into obsession.
Each chapter unfolds through richly detailed storytelling, blending dark blues, heavy rock and Southern Gothic influences into an immersive listening experience.
The opening chapter, ‘Gunslinger in Black‘, introduces both the mysterious outlaw and the album’s narrative.
As the band’s earliest recording, it remains the album’s most restrained composition, featuring emotional vocals enriched by subtle Slavic chanting that reflects Lariyah’s heritage while setting the stage for the story ahead.
Later in the album, ‘The Graveyard Song‘ delivers one of its most haunting moments.
Whispered passages, ghostly vocal layers and eerie melodies create an atmosphere of quiet despair as the narrator’s search finally reaches its emotional conclusion.
Rather than relying on instrumental force, the song allows the vocals to carry its sense of loss and acceptance.
The album also includes an unexpected reinterpretation of Nancy Sinatra’s classic ‘These Boots Are Made for Walkin‘.
Far removed from the original version, DieveNoire transforms the song into a slow-burning blues-rock anthem built around a powerful, foot-stomping groove.
Its themes of independence, rebellion and refusing to conform fit naturally within the spirit of ‘The Story of a Gunslinger‘.
Behind the music stands a lineup of accomplished musicians whose experience spans multiple corners of the metal world.
Guitarist Josh Perrin, known for his work with Akhlys, originally wasn’t meant to join the project, as Lariyah wanted him to focus on his black metal career.
However, his passion for classic rock and outlaw country ultimately made him an ideal addition to the live lineup.
Lead guitarist Lothar Keller, whose résumé includes The Skull, Legions of Doom and Sacred Dawn, became one of the band’s creative cornerstones, while drummer Paul McBride, known from projects including The Reticent, has already begun steering DieveNoire toward an even heavier direction for future releases.
Interestingly, the band’s inspiration wasn’t born from a single musical influence.
While Lariyah spent years immersed in black metal and traditional heavy metal, the defining moment came during an extreme metal festival in Finland, when musicians who had just performed crushing metal sets casually gathered later that evening with acoustic guitars, playing classic rock and country songs together.
That spontaneous celebration of music, stripped of genres and expectations, became the spark that ultimately shaped DieveNoire’s identity.
Although ‘The Story of a Gunslinger‘ leans heavily into blues-rock and atmospheric storytelling, the band has already hinted that future material will push much further into heavier territory.
Rather than abandoning their roots, DieveNoire appear determined to expand them, combining cinematic narratives, emotional depth and increasingly powerful songwriting into a sound that is entirely their own.
