BLOOD FEAST continues to forge its own twisted thrash metal path with the release of their 4th full-length album, ‘Infinite Evolution‘.
Fans old and new will not be disappointed, as the ‘Unholy Trinity’ of releases from the band’s early days – ‘Kill For Pleasure‘ (1987), ‘Face Fate‘ (1988, EP) and ‘Chopping Block Blues‘ (1990) – and the band’s 2017 comeback album ‘The Future State Of Wicked‘ influence much of the new album.
All the speed, brutality and twists ’n’ turns the band is known for remain intact and in your face.
BLOOD FEAST was formed by Adam Tranquilli, Gary Markowich (vocals), Kevin Kuzma (drums) and Lou Starita (bass) in 1985 as Blood Lust.
They quickly wrote and recorded their classic 4-song demo, ‘The Suicidal Missions‘.
Shortly after, they became a 5-piece with the addition of Michael Basden on guitar.
The band was then approached by New Renaissance Records to contribute songs to their ‘Thrash Metal Attack‘ (Menacing Thunder) and ‘Speed Metal Hell 3‘ (The Suicidal Missions).
This prompted the name change to BLOOD FEAST.
New Renaissance then offered a record deal, which led to the recording of the classic ‘Kill For Pleasure‘ album and a US tour with DEATH ANGEL.
The ‘Face Fate‘ EP quickly followed.
Shortly after writing and recording their proposed 2nd album, Adam left the band.
The remaining 4 members then re-recorded these songs, which became the album ‘Chopping Block Blues‘.
The band broke up shortly after the album’s release in early 1990.
The original 5-man BLOOD FEAST reunited for an appearance at the NJ March Metal Meltdown in 1999, but further activity was not to be.
A second reunion began in 2007, albeit only with original members Tranquilli and Kuzma.
Bassist Tom Lorenzo and vocalist Chris Natalini came on board in 2010, just in time for the band’s first appearance at ‘Headbangers Open Air‘ in Germany (they were invited back in 2013 and 2017).
During this stretch, Adam began writing new material, with the band even playing an early version of ‘INRI‘ at select shows.
The incarnation of BLOOD FEAST retaking its place in the metal ranks today began to take shape in March of 2014, with the addition of guitarist CJ Scioscia.
When drummer Joe Moore joined a few months later, the unit was complete and work immediately began on what would become ‘The Future State Of Wicked‘ album.
Live performances became far more frequent, featuring appearances at ‘True Thrash Fest 2015‘ in Osaka, Japan, ‘Hells Headbash 2‘ in Cleveland, Ohio, ‘Lima MetalFest II‘ in Lima, Peru and the aforementioned return to ‘Headbangers Open Air‘ in 2017.
The album was released on Hells Headbangers Records in the Spring of 2017, in time to coincide with an opening slot for Kreator and Obituary on that year’s Decibel Tour at the TLA in Philadelphia.
In late 2017, Moore was replaced by former M.O.D. touring drummer Adam Kieffer.
Both Adams have an extensive history, most notably in the bands Headlock and Without End (of which Lorenzo was also a member).
AK slotted in perfectly, and work immediately began on a new EP entitled ‘Chopped, Sliced And Diced‘.
This featured one new song (‘Concubine’) along with new recordings of 4 songs from the band’s early records.
Work on LP #4, ‘Infinite Evolution‘, began in late 2019.
However, the sudden ’pause’ caused by the COVID-19 virus in early 2020 allowed for reflection on the situation.
After much consideration it was decided that Adam Tranquilli would add lead vocal to his guitar duties – thus ending Natalini’s time with the band.
Also, after having the help of bass player extraordinaire Mike LePond of SYMPHONY X for the album, new bassist Dave Kramer joined the fold in late 2023.
Now, after all the unintended interruptions and diversions, the album is finally available via long time label Hells Headbangers.
Written by Tranquilli and Scioscia, it is a fierce statement of intent while adding a few new wrinkles.
And in a first for BLOOD FEAST, there is a promotional video for the song ‘Outbreak‘.
With the world opened up again, 2024 is shaping up to present a bright future for BLOOD FEAST.
