Helsinki-based Fearout releases new ’Resistenza’ EP as a follow up for their ‘Bleedthrough’ (Inverse 2021) debut album with ‘Resistenza’.
This EP is also released by Inverse Records.
New EP will expand band’s repertoire closer to punk rock, but band still combines their rough-edged metal rock with stoner influences.
“We started the process for this ‘Resistenza’ EP right after we had our debut album mastered, and we thought that there wasn’t that many punkish songs in our on our debut album, so the next album – whenever that would be made – would be punk EP. Fast forward half a year later, after Russians had started the war in Ukraine, there was a lot of anguish and agony and thus inspiration, and we wrote a couple of songs that reflected our feelings towards the war, and it made sense to start working on this album right away. There are also couple of older songs on the album that were written way back in 2008 and the rest of the songs are from somewhere in between, songs that we’ve been playing for a couple of years and some of them have been already played live. They are punkish songs, but it’s Fearout punk and they have also lots of our usual elements: metal, stoner, hard rock, etc. Resistenza? I ran into nazi resistance memorial in Italy last spring right after the war had started and took a photo that was used in EP cover. There is so much evil and ugly what to resist these days. Even though the resistance may seem futile. But even more because of that.”
To celebrate the album release a new music video is done to the track ‘One Bullet (to fix it all)’.
Fearout:
‘Hey Stringer, Where’s Wallace?’
“‘Hey Stringer, Where’s Wallace?’ was written approximately same time when we decided to start recording our first album. So it just quite didn’t make it to the first album. This song has upbeat feeling and kind of positive vibe even though the lyrics tell a sad story about boys boys in the hood. This is influenced by the best TV show ever made: The Wire. Fun fact: when we started this band, I suggested that we should call it Stringer Bell, says lead vocalist Justus.”
‘The End of the World’
“This one is written after the war had started in spring 2022 and the theme and atmosphere is pretty grim. The song lists atrocities done by humans in 20th century. And since we refuse to learn anything from the past, we keep on repeating until we actually will cause the end of the world. This is probably the fastest song we’ve ever written.”
‘One Bullet (to Fix It All)’
“This was the song that Arg wrote in spring 2022 after Russians attacked Ukraine. It’s really aggressive and powerful riff-based song and lyrics are about the disappointment to humanity and the wasting of lives that war causes to everyone involved. The song proposes permanent solution to this war kind of tongue-in-cheek…”
‘Hanoi Rocks’
“This is a semi-fictional love story and a tribute to one of my all-time favorite bands, Hanoi Rocks. The lyrics are filled with references to Hanoi Rocks songs and albums and music is a sort of tribute to them as well.”
‘Altogether’
“Olden Goldie. This song was written back in 2008. I had a punk project band back in the day and I had composed some songs for that, but they were never really used anywhere. Maybe a little bit Nirvana type of feeling in this song. The lyrics were heavily influenced by George Floyd story and other police brutality stories you read almost every day from newspapers.”
‘What’s the Matter With You’
“This is a weird one. It has kind of System of a Down type of feeling in main riff and then in verses theres some blast beats and really nice chorus with some rage in it. Unfortunately the lyrics are inspired by a true story when a man I knew tried to burn himself alive. Unsuccessfully.”
‘Seattle Suicide Pact’
“Another one from 2008 sessions. I’m not sure if this is punk or rock or whatnot. In lyrics I’m trying to the inner conflict between trueful to the art you create, but the need being commercial enough to make ends meet.”
