Mr Shiraz are back, and they’re not easing anyone in gently.
Their new EP ‘Avalanche‘ arrives as a four-track burst of melodic punk rock that captures everything fans love about the band – only louder, sharper, and more direct.
Packed with driving riffs, towering hooks, and choruses built to be shouted back at the stage, ‘Avalanche‘ hits with the urgency and heart that have always defined Mr Shiraz at their best.
Serving as the follow-up to their acclaimed album ‘Glorious‘, the EP finds the band pushing forward without losing sight of who they are.
The melodies cut deeper, the rhythms hit harder, and the songwriting balances grit and uplift with a confidence that suggests a band fully in control of its sound.
From start to finish, ‘Avalanche‘ feels like a celebration of what punk rock should be:
anthemic, emotional, and impossible to ignore.
Of course, Mr Shiraz have always thrived on contradiction.
Bassist Tori Shiraz is a philosophy prodigy, often jokingly described as one of the smartest people on the planet.
Frontman Mikey Shiraz, on the other hand, once published a book detailing his own misdeeds – so confronting that even his mother refuses to read it.
Lead guitarist Tim Shiraz completes the picture by apparently resembling everyone and no one at once, having been compared to Edward Norton, the unfortunate corpse from Stand By Me, Cameron from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and even the mum from the ’90s TV show Dinosaurs.
Absurd?
Absolutely.
But beneath the humor lies a band that takes its music very seriously.
That seriousness has paid off.
Mr Shiraz have claimed a Pure Rawk Award for Best Single and picked up nominations for Best Bassist, Best Frontman, and Best EP, returning to the Best EP category again in 2016.
Their live reputation is just as formidable – chaotic, hyper-energetic, and relentlessly fun – earning them stages alongside Bouncing Souls, Skindred, Therapy?, Alkaline Trio, Joey Cape, and Blacklisters, as well as a full UK tour with Snuff and Bam Margera’s Fuckface Impossible.
After a few lineup changes and a sound sharpened to match the intensity of their live shows, Mr Shiraz now proudly fly the flag of ‘groove punk‘.
‘Avalanche‘ is both an invitation and a statement:
loud, heartfelt, and unapologetically alive.
Whether you’ve been along for the ride for years or you’re just jumping in now, this EP proves that Mr Shiraz are still very much in motion – and they’re taking everyone with them.
