The album ‘Mentes Reae’ by Finnish melodic death metal band Hagalas will be released via Inverse Records on May 31, 2024, as a physical edition and will be available on streaming platforms as a whole in early autumn 2024.
The timely theme of the album, depicting the multifaceted aspects of mental health, also resonates in the newly released track.
The message of the song revolves around the continuous search for meaning in human life and how at the end, the character of the story realizes that their life has been spent chasing meaningless pursuits and the time given has been questionably utilized.
Perhaps the message is to do something with your life before it’s too late.

The ‘Mentes Reae’ album was recorded during 2023 and will be released as a physical edition on May 31, 2024, through Inverse Records.
As for streaming platforms, the album will be gradually available in its entirety starting from early autumn 2024.
The album’s theme revolves around mental health and its complex facets and it goes without saying that this theme is more relevant now than ever before.
Alongside the band, Samuli Raappana (Tuuliajo) participated in the recordings and mixing, while Tony Lindgren (Fascination Street Studios) handled the mastering.
The choice of the first single release aligns perfectly with the album’s theme.
As its name suggests, it addresses domestic violence and the resulting trauma, questioning how much an individual can endure before something irreversible happens…

The melodic death quintet Hagalas from Jyväskylä Finland, have published their second EP on April the 4th 2022.
Thematically the EP follows the already published single ‘Destination: Genocide’, being very topical regarding the current world situation.
War, refugeedom and the struggle of humanity are mirror images of the songs to be published.
The release contains four songs, including the month ago published ‘Destination: Genocide’, which recieved great overall ratings and media feedback.
The band comments:
“As A Unit, the title track, paints a picture of war and brotherhood. Focusing on how a single combatant cannot make a difference. How you fight and die as a unit. The song also makes note of the scars you receive in war. And they are for life. An official lyrics video has also been released for the title track. The EP also contains the songs Rampant and Animal Farm, from which the former sends a message to the oppressor not to get used to unconditional power. Revolution and reprisal for freedom are inevitable. Animal Farms message is that you are living your life as a faceless slave, your worth measured in taxes paid per critical questions asked. Embracing the invisible shackles. Thanking your tyrant with a wide smile and tightening the blindfold as you step over the edge. Desination: Genocide describes the consequences of people sitting on their hands, while society spirals to dystopic totalitarianism. Picturing life is good, while standing on an invisible conveyor belt, eyes shut, trusting autocrats to decide what is best for all.”
With the publishing of the EP Hagalas goes on a live tour.

The live shows are carried out with Shadecrown (FIN), Veriteras (Seattle, USA), Soulglass(FIN) and Warfarer (FIN).
‘As A Unit’ EP was recorded in the Fall of 2021 in an old cottage at the shore of Lake Päijänne with Samuli Raappana from Tuuliajo in charge of recording and mixing.
The EP was mastered in Sweden by Tony Lindgren from Fascination Street Studios.
The songs themselves are composed and arranged by Hagalas.
“Our method for songwriting is to gather up to the musical man-cave and start playing. Due to these test-sessions and countless hours of input, the band is in peak performance and ready to bring in the show, which you can measure yourself by coming to the live concerts this spring.”

‘Destination: Genocide’
Finnish melodic death metal quintet Hagalas from Jyväskylä releases their second EP ‘As A Unit’ on April 4th 2022.
Earlier they have released ‘Crimson Tide’ EP (2018) and three separate singles that have gathered excellent feedback from the audience.
Now they present single ‘Destination: Genocide’ from the upcoming EP.
The track title tells pretty much what the song is about.
It’s about people blindly counting on the dystopic totalitarianism and believeing that they are living a good life.
But they are actually guided by tyrants.
And we all know what is the most likely outcome from that situation.
‘As A Unit’ EP was recorded in autumn 2021 by the shores of Central Finnish lake Päijänne by Samuli Raappana (Tuuliajo).
It is mastered by Tony Lindgren / Fascination Street Studios in Sweden.
Hagalas composes it’s songs together as a band and so their sound has a power of playing really tight together.
