edgarallanpoets.com:
“In a music landscape crowded with formulaic standards, The Trudy’s ‘Every Story Ever Told’ is a rare gem..”
organthing.com:
“A new Trudy single is always a treat but this one has something extra, something timeless”
Johnny Black, Hi-Fi News & Record Review magazine:
“… easily among the most invigorating bands operating today”
plasticmag.co.uk:
“It’s a spectacular new song from an accomplished outfit who prove they’re still operating at the top of their game.”
yorkcalling.co.uk:
“Elements of psych mix into classic rock and folk influences before arriving at a story rich with mythic imagery, beautifully delivered through lilting, expressive vocals.”
louderthanwar.com:
“The Trudy are the coolest UK cult pop band you’ve probably never heard of. They should have been our Blondie, a smart, art-pop hit-machine. Connections with the Cardiacs meant they had a bohemian oddness and were just too cool for playing the mainstream game.”
theothersidereviews.com:
“A kaleidoscopic soundscape, the track is beguiling, mystifying and fills you with a sense of comfortable chaos”
lessthan1000followers.com:
“The singer’s wonderful soaring vocals, the dark yet absolutely divine guitars and gentle shimmering sounds of vibraphone weave an unforgettable and vivid aural experience, one that just calls to hit that replay button”
themusicbelow.com:
“If you’re not familiar with their work then now’s the time to catch up on what you’ve missed out on!”
whisperinandhollerin.com:
“infectious, dreamy and irresistible…This record made me hug myself, and feel glad to be alive. For that, I give it a breathless, unconditional thumbs-up”
subba-cultcha.com:
“pretty fabulous in my books”
Step ‘Outside Time’ with the brand-new 7 track, 21 minute long, mini album by The Trudy.
The band are calling it a mini album, rather than an EP, because it’s a timeless collection of tunes sequenced to be listened to like one side of an LP.
“It takes you on a musical journey”,
they say.
“‘Where The Roses Grow’ is a progressive nature trail, all wrapped up with The Trudy’s trademark pop poetry. With flutes & acoustic guitar, and with hints of Sonja Kristina and Curved Air echoing in the distance, you could place this song in any decade. This is where The Trudy belong.”
“‘Dear Sancho’ is The Trudy’s cinematic literary opus. Following the curious relationship between Cervantes’ mad knight-errant Don Quixote and his everyman squire, Sancho Panza, it’s a soaring reprise that asks: how can we reach out to dreams, when we’re consumed by delusion? The aching cadence of Melissa Jo Heathcote’s vocals casts shifting shadows as the song builds toward its epic conclusion.”
“‘Then Every Story Ever Told’, the recently released single, is a folk song posing as a sea shanty, with a massive message about life. With Sandy Denny influences proudly on display, Melissa Jo Heathcote’s lyrics evoke the beauty of the sea and take the listener on harmonious maritime voyage.”
“‘Giants Theme’ – spaghetti Westerns from London, as the Sancho motif weaves its way in and out of this voyage.”
“For the die-hard fans of punk pop, we have ‘Pop Pop’. Massive guitars & drums, with sneering, but sweet, vocals about the inevitable loss of love. Catch this Trudy track while you can. We may not hear its like again as The Trudy plot a new course with a set of follow up songs to be released next year.”
Formed in 1979, and having been through many incarnations, London band The Trudy are currently a trio comprising Melissa Jo Heathcote (vocals), Del Tagg (guitar) and Peter Tagg (drums).
The Trudy released a number of successful indie singles and an album ‘Tune-In To The Trudy Love-Ray!’
Becoming well known for their energetic live performances, they attracted rave reviews and regular radio airplay.
The band went their separate ways in 1994, as members pursued solo TV and radio projects.
But the calling was strong.
In 2006 The Trudy were reactivated and since then have attracted a new wave of fans with singles such as ‘Oh!’, ‘Lost Summer of Love’ & ‘Dirt Cheap Melody’, and the 2016 album ‘Always Never Beautiful Forever’.
The Trudy’s cover of ‘Day Is Gone’ from the acclaimed compilation ‘Leader Of The Starry Skies: A Tribute to Tim Smith’ received plays on BBC 6 Music.
