‘Avatar’

Visual arts by Mario Lopez

Composed by Jukka Hoffrén, Toni Bite, Janne Ojala
Lyrics by Sami Ilvonen

Coventhrall published their first single ‘Dreadnought’ a month ago and continues the story with the next episode.
The song titled ‘Avatar’ introduces its namesake hero of the concept album Legacy of Morfuidra.
Tuomas Nieminen, known as the lead singer of Adamantra interprets the character of ‘Avatar’ with dedication in the verses and blasts away the choruses as duets with Sami Ilvonen.
Narrator of the story Sami Ilvonen describes the role of Avatar:
“Avatar is but a youngster when he is chosen for the perilous mission to breach the Scaven blockade. The Coven enables the Avatar to use the ancient technology and tools as well as manifest the willpower of the Morfuidran people. They send the fearless young man on the adventure of his lifetime.”

Bass player Jukka Hoffrén comments on the choice of Tuomas Nieminen to the role of Avatar:
“It was clear from the start that this role required an impressive sounding heroic tenor. The capabilities of Tuomas as a great interpreter immersing in any role was already familiar over the span of several years and made me suggest him as the first choice for this role.”
This song as well as the former release is melodic and strong double bass drum drive makes it the first choice for all power metal fans.
The song took the final form after the drums were already recorded.
Guitar player Toni Bite reminisces on the long days back at the studio:
“The drum tracks had been recorded by Janne Ojala and we were recording bass and guitars for the song with Jukka Hoffrén when the original chorus started to feel a bit off. We decided to quit recording for the day and went to the sauna to think about the next move. After a good set of hot and sweaty steams Jukka picked up a guitar and came up with a new chorus on the spot. It sounded great and ended up on the track.”
This single and upcoming album ‘Legacy Of Morfuidra’ are published through Inverse Records.

‘Dreadnought’

Coventhrall are:
Sami “Texas” Ilvonen – vocals
Toni Bite – guitars
Jukka Hoffrén – bass, keyboards, guitars
Kimmo Korhonen – guitars
Janne Ojala – drums

Coventhrall is finally publishing its flamboyant sci-fi themed album ‘Legacy Of Morfuirda’.
Opening single is the second track of the album, ‘Dreadnought’ which introduces the villains of the story and their large battleship.
The creator of the story and the vocalist Sami “Texas” Ilvonen describes the song as follows:
“Dreadnought is a huge, bulky old mothership manned by space pirates and scavenging galactic riffraff. The pirates target defenceless victims in the galaxy’s more remote space lanes and solar systems outside the reach of the galactic Emperor and the law. In this second track of the album the scavengers arrive in the Morfuidran solar system piloting the Dreadnought. They aim to enslave peaceful people and strip mine their planet Morfuidra of all their resources and ancient technology.”
The track also features Jari Pailamo in keyboard solo.
Jukka Hoffrén, also known from Adamantra and Amberian Dawn looks back on the creation of the song:
“I composed the song with the acoustic guitar sometime in the middle of the nineties at my summer cabin. Both albums, Imaginations From The Other Side by Blind Guardian and Land Of The Free by Gamma Ray had just come out and I copied them from my friend to a c-cassette, which I blasted on my walkman. One can clearly hear the influence from those albums in the melodies of the song. Some Unanimated, Forbidden and At The Gates like-a-riffs can be heard as well. The song got rejected by a couple of my bands over the years until finally Mr. Bite and Mr. Texas were taken in by the song enough to definitely want it in the upcoming Coventhrall album.”
This single and upcoming album ‘Legacy Of Morfuidra’ are released through Inverse Records.
