The debut EP from Memento Mori (US), this self-titled EP is 7 tracks of relentless, in your face breakdowns and slamming riffs.
Founded by the duo of Gage Smith and Matt Hampson, Memento Mori brings a sense of dread with slow, earth-shattering chugs and lyrics that hit as hard as the Souls-Borne fights who inspired them.
All the tracks have a slammy downtempo feel to them with various elements and styles put into each song to give them all individuality.
‘The Old Chaos’:
“‘The Old Chaos’ is the start of the release and it starts off slow to build up into an explosion of energy an heaviness.”
‘Reversus Ad Aetatem Obscurae’:
“‘Reversus Ad Aetatem Obscurae’ follows up with more heavy chugging riffs and it continues the story that the EP tells.”
‘Spawn of Woe’:
“‘Spawn of Woe’ has orchestral elements that interact with the deathcore riffage and it begins the usage of the classic 808 bass drops.”
‘Onset of Calamity’:
“‘Onset of Calamity’ was changed to have an added trap beat courtesy of Alex Sevigny and was the first song to be mixed and mastered by him as well. ‘OoC’ has a melodic sound and evil vibe to it which is accompanied by Gage’s and feature Bryce Schedlbauer’s vocals.”
‘Dawn of Misery’:
“‘Dawn of Misery’ was written to be absolutely unforgiving and brutal and D4C had some things to say on this one.”
‘I, The End’:
“‘I, The End”s intro was heavily inspired by tech death connoisseurs Archspire, the song overall was meant to be simple and sweet with it building up to the finale.”
‘In Search of Solace’:
“‘In Search of Solace’ was the first Memento Mori track ever written and has mostly all of the original vocal files on it. ‘ISOS’ is meant to be melancholic and heavy, with the subject matter being about taking one’s own life for peace from the horrors that they’ve witnessed.”
