Heavy/power metal band Eregion is set to captivate fans once again with the release of their brand new single, ‘Kingdom of Heaven’.
This highly-anticipated track offers a powerful blend of distinctive power metal tones, coupled with the band’s signature epic flair, promising a gripping musical journey.
As a precursor to their upcoming album slated for a spring 2024 launch, ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ marks a definitive shift in the band’s sound, featuring more pronounced power metal elements.
As a prelude to the spring album launch, Eregion introduces a refreshed lineup, welcoming Dario Fontana as the lead vocalist and Davide ‘Gengis’ Gianforte as the bassist, injecting renewed energy into the band’s sonic landscape.
The track explores the historical theme of the Crusades, delving into the camaraderie that unites warriors before and during battle.
Adding an extra layer of richness to the single is the collaboration with exceptional guest musicians, including Katija Di Giulio (Eternal Silence) on the violin, Claudia Beltrame (Degrees Of Truth, Silent Angel) and Stefano Vallino (Tesla Shamans) contributing to the vocal sections.
Eregion were born in the spring of 2012 from an idea by Giorgio whose intent was to create a metal cover band.
He therefore recruited among his friends Gianluca ‘odd’ De Lotto on lead guitar, Silvio Brusa on bass, Davide Ferraris on drums, his brother Mauro Colbacchini as main vocalist and Barbara Borgo as backing vocalist.
So formed, the band started playing their favorite songs, expecially great classics taken from the repertoire of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Sabaton, Hammerfall, Accepts and many other famous bands.
Soon after forming and even before performing on stage, however, the band felt the need to channel their creativity through the composing of their own original songs.
The sounds of all these songs had to reflect the musical tastes already shown by choosing the covers to play before, while the shared passion for fantasy, for history and Norse mythology did the rest as regards the lyrics, making the band’s sound powerful, epic and melodic at the same time.
It is therefore in December of 2014 that ‘Lord of War’, the first album featuring nine of the most rappresentative tracks that represent the trip undertaken together until then, finally see the light.
Subsequently Eregion bring their music on various stages also playing with bands of the caliber of Airborn and Drakkar.
It is during this time that Barbara and, later, Davide decide to leave the band to embrace other projects.
Andrea Muscarello joins the band behind the drums and with him continues the adventure sharing the stage with other very good bands (Ancillotti, Paragon, Sound Storm, Skeletoon, Eternal Silence).
In the meantime, the desire to compose new songs does not end, of course, rather continues with a more power metal imprint and without betraying the sounds of the debut album.
For some of these songs the band feels the need to introduce some violin parts, so Letiziamaria Gatti is asked to join the band and she accepts with enthusiasm dedicating herself also to the choir.
With this line-up, the band entered the studios to record his second album called ‘Age of Heroes’.
2021 sees another line-up change, with the entry of Dario Fontana on vocals in place of Mauro Colbachini.
The following year has marked the exit of the violinist Letiziamaria Gatti and the entry of Gengis Dave on bass following the premature death of Silvio Brusa.
With this new lineup settled on five elements and tested in many concerts with many other bands (Terra Atlantica, Sailing to Nowhere), Eregion enter Mattia Stancioiu’s Elnor studios for the recording of their third album, again produced by Rockshots Records.
The first single entitled ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ was released on January 15, 2024.
WHY DID YOU FORM? HOW DID THE IDEA COME TO BE?
“The group formed around 2014 as a cover band before moving on to composing their own songs. The original members were all passionate about heavy metal and role-playing games and, already playing in other bands, it was almost natural to find themselves playing together in the project that took the name of Eregion.”
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN FIVE WORDS?
“Our sound is epic, melodic, powerful, direct, battle-starved.”
YOUR UPCOMING ALBUM, HOW DO YOU THINK IT WILL BE RECEIVED BY THE FANS?
“We are sure that the public will appreciate a record that makes us proud of and that in our opinion came out really well: inspired and with excellent production. We can’t look forward to feel the warmth of the fans.”
WHAT KIND OF LISTENING EXPERIENCE IS TRYING TO GIVE FANS WITH THIS ALBUM, ITS SINGLE?
“First of all, our single has the task of introducing our new singer Dario to the heavy metal world. The song represents a bit of everything the listener will find on the album: speed, power, epicness and melody.”
HOW IS THE WRITING PROCESS FOR THE BAND?
“Normally the idea of the song as a whole is presented by ODD, the guitarist, to be then elaborated and arranged by the group.”
ARE ANY OF THE BAND MEMBERS KNOWN ON THE LOCAL SCENE FROM ANY OTHER BANDS?
“Each member of the band has played with other bands in the past and, in some way, made themselves known around. Currently only the bassist, Dave, plays in another band called Alma Thaur.”
HOW DID YOU DECIDE ON THE TRACKS FOR THIS ALBUM? HOW MUCH MORE MUSIC CAN FANS EXPECT?
“We included the best tracks trying to give variety to the album. Fast tracks, of course, but also a slow one and something particular because we always like to explore new horizons, also to offer something new to the listener.”
WHAT CAN PEOPLE EXPECT LIVE FROM YOUR BAND COMPARED TO OTHER BANDS?
“We play first of all to have fun and we believe that this is transmitted, especially from the stage. Apart from this thing, which is not obvious, we don’t pretend to distinguish ourselves from all the other bands, we play our music and try to do it well.”
WHERE DO YOUR LYRICS COME FROM? WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WRITING?
“All our lyrics are inspired by history, especially that of the Vikings, and by fantasy, and in particular by the writings of Tolkien.”
ARE THE SONGS A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT?
“Yes, of course, it is important that every single song is felt as their own by every single member of the band. Only in this way is it possible to have fun and be a real band on stage and friends in a pub.”
DOES THE BAND HAVE A MAIN SONGWRITER?
“Yes, the guitarist ODD, but everyone contributes in some way.”
HOW DOES THE MUSIC AFFECT THE LYRICS AND VICE VERSA?
“It is hard to explain. A song can be born from a melody or a riff, indifferently, but then the two paths continue to cross. Sometimes one runs and has to wait for the other. But then, somehow, they find themselves at the end of the race shaking hands. This often takes work and time, of course.”
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE EVOLUTION OF THE BAND’S SOUND?
“This album is more power-oriented than the previous two. The violin, which gave a folk imprint to our sound, is less present. The change of singer also meant a lot for our sound, obviously. Ultimately, however, it remains 100% Eregion’s work, even if it certainly represents an evolution.”
NAME THE TOP 5 BAND INFLUENCES OF THE BAND…
“Ensiferum, Blind Guardian, Judas Priest, Crimson Glory, Manowar”
WHAT METAL GENRES INFLUENCE You AS A BAND THE MOST?
“We listen to a lot of music, and it is very likely that there are many influences, certainly Power metal and Classic heavy metal influence us the most.”
DESCRIBE THE ALBUM AS A WHOLE…
“The album is a journey into history and fantasy through the deeds of heroes who have become legend. Non omnis moriar means precisely this: ‘I will not die completely’, that is, my deeds will survive my mortal coil.”
DESCRIBE EACH SONG TRACK BY TRACK…
‘KINGDOM OF HEAVEN’:
“This is a fast song but with a slow section at his end with acoustic guitar, inspired by a Templar song.”
‘RIDE FORTH’:
“‘RIDE FORTH’ tells of the ardor of the armies that throw themselves into the fray.”
‘THE RIVAL KINGS’:
“This song tells of the last legendary fight between King Arthur and Mordred in the Battle of Camlann.”
‘BATTLE TO CARRY ON’:
“‘BATTLE TO CARRY ON’ is about mercenaries always looking for battles and features oriental sounds.
‘EARENDIL THE MARINER’:
“This is a ballad that speeds up at the end and tells of the exploits of Earendil in his navigation towards Valinor.”
‘EARENDIL STAR’:
“It is a rather fast song that talks about Earendil navigating space after his ship gained the power to fly.”
‘BADON HILL’:
“With this song we return to talking about King Arthur, precisely about his first battle of which there is historical news.”
‘FAR MY LAND’:
“‘FAR MY LAND’ is probably the most folk song on the album, it tells of Viking warriors returning home after the raiding season to spend the winter.”
‘BLOOD BROTHERS’:
“A metal anthem, an invitation to brotherhood.”
‘ENGLAND’S FAME’:
“The album closes with ‘ENGLAND’S FAME’, a song that is very reminiscent of Manowar, without music and with a very important choir.”
