Melodic hardcore trailblazers Being As An Ocean have released their much-anticipated new album, ‘Death Can Wait’.
In celebration of the release, the band has also shared an evocative music video for the album focus track ‘Gloom’.
‘Gloom’ presents a raw and introspective look at the personal battles we all face.
The track underscores the band’s signature blend of emotive storytelling and layered soundscapes, speaking to the resilience of the human spirit.
Speaking on the themes and inspiration for the new track, Being As An Ocean share:
“‘Gloom’ is a song about recognizing our own personal demons and the character flaws that we all have. With self-awareness, we can begin to see when they pop up and poke their heads into our lives. We can fight back. Each of us have different ‘monsters’ inside of us, but that also means with practice and growth, we each have different heroic qualities in us. These are the positive things that we must grow and foster out of necessity to fight our own personal mental battles. We then take those strengths and bring them into the physical world as forces of change for good. The song is an encouragement to anyone who is struggling with an internal battle. As long as you continue to fight and persevere, with grace, acceptance, and love for yourself, you will grow more than you could have ever imagined. We can slay or at least tame the monsters in us.”

‘Fullness Of My Being’
Melodic post-hardcore trailblazers Being As An Ocean have released new single ‘The Fullness of My Being’.
The track is the fourth single to be released off the band’s highly anticipated new album, ‘Death Can Wait’ out February 2nd.
Providing further context for ‘The Fullness of My Being’, the band shares,
“‘The Fullness Of My Being’ is a personal reflection on what making music, being a performer, a writer, and an artist has meant to me and the place I, Joel, have allowed it to take in my life; what I have let it mean to me in the past. It was everything. I had let it become what defined me, what drove my decision making, my lifestyle, my whole personality. That sustained me for a time. But what I hadn’t realized I was doing was neglecting huge parts of myself and my personal development because I was so hyper focused on that one aspect of my life. Parts of me that I had failed to foster were withering. Placing too much significance on one part of you can be immensely painful, detrimental, and even dangerous, especially when it is taken away from you. That is exactly what the pandemic did to me. It took away the music industry, at least for a time. But in that time, there was little to no hope in sight for that person that I had built myself up to be. I felt lost, unmoored, and directionless. I sank into a deep depression. It was through pulling myself back into all of the parts of me that I had been neglecting that taught me and showed me the whole of my being and personality. It gave me space to rediscover, explore, and expand my identity to be more of the man that I had hoped myself to be. These hard times have helped me realize and being to actualize the fullness of my being.”
Following previously released singles ‘Death Can Wait’, ‘Swallowed By The Earth’ and ‘Flesh And Bone’ as well as a successful headlining tour, ‘The Fullness of My Being’ emerges as the fourth prelude to Being As An Ocean’s highly anticipated album is an extremely personal set of songs loaded with pure emotion continuing the band’s legacy of crafting deep, introspective music that speaks to the soul.
‘Beautiful Agony’:
“‘Beautiful Agony’ is about the growth that can come out of hardship. Perseverance in dark times builds strength of character. No mud, no lotus. There is a balance we must hold in recognizing our pain, taking accountability for our role in our own suffering, and using our respective strengths to grow and learn from our circumstances. That growth is our future potential and our purpose. This can take many forms: adjusting expectations of life while grieving other imagined futures, finding out that the people who we hold closest are not who we thought they were, missing a lost loved one and figuring out a path ahead without them, etc. Nothing in this life is promised or permanent; what makes this precious is that life is so fleeting.”
‘Swallowed By The Earth’:
“‘Swallowed By The Earth’ is a question of how we find meaning and significance in our trials. Do we let them wash over us, consume us, let them defeat us, or do we use them and our failures as tools for growth. It is about keeping persistence of mindset, to not let ourselves slip into a victim mentality because of our circumstances, which are temporary, but rather, lean into the lessons that each experience has waiting for us on the other side. As long as we continue to have faith in a deeper meaning and the untapped strengths that we all have within us, hardship does not have to be earth-shattering, but can become transformative for our soul and character.”
‘Purest Love’:
“‘Purest Love’ is born from the personal experience of someone who is the main care giver for and partner to someone with chronic illness. There is a profound helplessness felt in loving someone that you can’t do anything to help alleviate their physical pain. It a daily fight to remain strong for them, to advocate for them, and to do all that you can to facilitate the best quality of life for them. I look at my wife and love her all the more because I see how mentally tough and how beautiful her spirit is despite all constant challenges and pains that she endures. My admiration grows for her every day. Her persistence and courage gives me strength even when I feel my most helpless.”
‘…Gave It A Voice So That My Heart Could Speak’:
“‘…Gave It A Voice So That My Heart Could Speak’ is about artistic creation as a need born from obsessive passion. The creative’s inner drive to produce comes from the innate satisfaction that it brings the soul. All monetary gain or notoriety is secondary to this or else the art itself is not completely authentic. The song discusses the hardships felt in the pursuit of sharing your passions all while feeling the strength of those who are and have encouraged you, who have filled your spirit, the sadness felt in the sacrifices made along the way, and missing the loved ones who hoped to foster that passionate drive in you who have passed away.”
‘Flesh and Bone’:
“‘Flesh & Bone’ seeks to describe the splitting of the soul that happens when one gives themselves to their passions, dreams, and obsessions. It is the about the feeling of longing for home while being away, while also acknowledging that too much time spent in comfort is time taken away from the unknown, discovery, and adventure. The song is about missing loved ones from the road: the isolation that can be felt when you are away from your support network, especially when you are emotionally low. When the road has become a part of who you are or has shaped you in significant ways, no matter how much you hold those you love dear or how precious the time spent at home, the road still pulls at you and your spirit still hears it’s call.”
‘Gloom’:
“‘Gloom’ is a song about recognizing our own personal demons and the character flaws that we all have. With self awareness, we can begin to see when they pop up and poke their heads into our lives. We can fight back. Each of us have a different ‘monsters’ inside of us, but that also means with practice and growth, we each have different heroic qualities in us.
‘Paradise In My Mind’:
“‘Paradise In My Mind’ talks about how we must search to find fulfillment of self, within ourselves, and not in the things of this world that can be taken away from us. It is a longing for change, expansion, and growth of the spirit. It talks about the yearning the soul feels: to be immersed in peace, love, and to feel a deep, synchronous connection to the world we find ourselves in. We often look to the world around us for the things that should/could/need to change for this life to be better. But we don’t look inward enough, to see what things in ourselves are in need of dramatic and courageous change, so that our immediate world can become more beautiful.”
‘Snake’:
“‘Snake’ is a song about not being fooled twice, learning our lessons from betrayals and failures. It’s about becoming more careful, alert to, and wary of people in life who may seek to take advantage of you, manipulate you, and hurt you. Snake is about taking a stance of strength and wisdom after having learned a hard lesson, being betrayed, being misled, rather than becoming a victim and blaming everyone else for our circumstances or consequences. If we use our cunning and trust our instincts, we can become more attune to people’s true intentions and motivations. But first we must recognize our own part we played in the past dramas of our life, see where we went wrong, forgive ourselves, and remain open to each new positive or negative possibility, and have the courage to stand up for ourselves and others when the time calls for it.”
‘Death Can Wait’:
“‘Death Can Wait’ is about living in the moment, without judgement or fear of circumstance. Taking each day as it comes and not banking to hard on the future, as none of us know how much time we truly have in this life. Memento Mori. It’s about being mindful of the gift that life is and not squandering it on frivolous or excessive excitements, distractions, diversions; being focused on our goals, aspirations, passions, and constructive obsessions. Living life as if this day is our last, while being prepared to greet Death, when it arrives, as a friend and nature part of this beautiful life.”

It is about the feeling of longing for home while being away, while also acknowledging that too much time spent in comfort is time taken away from the unknown, discovery, and adventure.
