Emerging from India’s thriving independent metal scene, Shiverwood Shade have established themselves as one of the country’s most ambitious modern metal acts.
Originally formed in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, in 2013, the band first gained recognition by winning prestigious college music festivals, including Spring Fest at IIT Kharagpur, IIIT Gwalior, and ITM.
What began as a project inspired by progressive metal and science fiction gradually evolved into something far more personal and emotionally driven.
A defining moment in the band’s history came in 2022, when Shiverwood Shade relocated more than 1,500 kilometres east to Kolkata and rebuilt the lineup from the ground up.
The move marked far more than a geographical change.
It represented a complete artistic rebirth, allowing the band to leave its earlier identity behind and develop a more focused and emotionally powerful musical direction.
Today, Shiverwood Shade describe their sound as Cinematic Metal, a distinctive fusion of alternative metal, groove metal, nu metal, post hardcore, industrial electronics, and cinematic atmospheres.
Heavy down tuned guitars collide with orchestral textures, synthwave inspired soundscapes, electronic elements, and emotionally charged melodies, creating music that feels equally suited for the concert stage and the soundtrack of an intense psychological drama.
Their debut album, ‘Escaping Darkness‘, perfectly reflects this artistic vision.
Rather than presenting a simple collection of songs, the album unfolds as a complete emotional journey through inner conflict, trauma, healing, resilience, and ultimately hope.
Every track contributes to a larger narrative, inviting listeners to experience the record from beginning to end as one cohesive story.
Among the album’s standout moments is ‘Divided By Hate‘, one of Shiverwood Shade’s heaviest and most explosive compositions.
Driven by crushing nu metal riffs, industrial tension, and raw emotional intensity, the song examines the destructive power of anger, both directed inward and toward others.
At the opposite end of the emotional spectrum, the closing track ‘Break Free‘ provides a sense of liberation, completing the album’s progression from darkness toward renewal.
The band explains the concept behind the record in simple but powerful terms:
“We wanted to create an album that listeners could experience from beginning to end, a journey through darkness, doubt, resilience, and ultimately hope.”
That vision has already attracted international attention.
Tracks like ‘Pulling Away‘, ‘Holding On‘, and ‘Crawling Back‘ further demonstrate the band’s ability to combine crushing heaviness with melodic vulnerability.
Shiverwood Shade’s growing reputation has also extended well beyond India.
Their music has been featured by international outlets including Rock Rage Radio in the United States and W.O.A FM99 in the United Kingdom, while partnerships with the American label From The Depths Entertainment and the British company MN2S have helped introduce the band’s music to a wider global audience.
By blending modern metal with cinematic storytelling and deeply personal themes, Shiverwood Shade continue to push beyond traditional genre boundaries.
Their willingness to combine powerful riffs, electronic textures, atmospheric arrangements, and honest songwriting has resulted in a sound that is unmistakably their own, establishing them as one of the most exciting new voices emerging from the Indian metal scene.
