Rubi Ate The Fig released album ‘Desert Electric‘ and lead track ‘Breathe With Me Slowly‘ an exciting fusion of rock guitar and the Middle East.
‘Desert Electric‘, the new album from Rubi Ate The Fig combines the exoticism of the Middle East with the huge electric soundscape of rock’n’roll.
“All my songs are about love, sex or death”
says Sharon Eliashar, songwriter and vocalist of Rubi Ate The Fig.
“Take lead track ‘Breathe With Me Slowly’ a love song that describes a chaste seduction involving just ‘eyes touching eyes’ and then listen to ‘Caress The Moon’ which tackles suicide and self-destruction and just may be the essential Rubi Ate the Fig song.”
Such extremes dance throughout the new album ‘Desert Electric‘ which combines the traditional sounds of Middle Eastern music with out-and-out electric guitar and has been likened to ‘Led Zeppelin and Mahavishnu traveling through the desert‘.
‘Desert Electric‘ has been over five years in the making and was written and recorded in Pasadena, LA.
The making was a troubled one as producer and engineer Rich Mouser’s studio where they were recording was lost in the LA fires last year.
The band have since picked up the pieces and spent this past year finalizing the LP.
But it has been worth the wait.
The nine songs on the LP have been structured to tell a whole story with the overarching themes of love, sex and death weaving throughout the landscape of the Sinai desert and the lives of the Bedouins who inhabit that hematite coated land.
A thrilling journey of psychedelic transcendence, the album features such tales as ‘Gilgamesh‘ a love song from the desert, ‘Your Story‘ about watching a person you love slowly kill themselves, and ‘The Tent‘ which features love, sex, power dynamics and murder – a song that Sharon started to write in her 20s, but then realized that she ‘needed to be a woman‘ to finally finish.

In advance of their new album, ‘DESERT ELECTRIC’, Rubi Ate The Fig are excited to share single ‘Your Story‘.
“Everyone has a story. Sometimes, those stories are marked by pain and struggle; it’s in those moments that we find our true strength. Rubi Ate the Fig has always been about telling stories – the raw, unfiltered truths of life. Music has been our way to heal, and it’s our way to help others heal too. The essence of ‘Your Story’ is about having compassion and love for the people close to us that are overcoming addiction, battling their demons and finding recovery – It’s about having compassion for ourselves and knowing that we are doing the best we can; And it’s about the realization that no matter how dark the night, the dawn is always closer than we think…”
Best described as ‘Desert Rock‘;
Rubi Ate The Fig combine a classic rock vibe, with some exotic Middle-Eastern touches.
“Led Zeppelin and Mahavishnu traveling through the Desert – stopping to have tea with Grace Slick”
