CALL TO THE VOID

‘A Girl Like You’

recorded, mixed & mastered by Brian Bogdanovic at Bonafide Studio London

Joining forces for a duet cover of the Edwyn Collins classic ‘A Girl Like You’ – My Ruin vocalist Tairrie B. Murphy teams up with longtime friend Jack Osborne and his band Call To The Void in this darkly playful, amplified interpretation of the 1990s hit.
A coming together of two friends and a reflection on their history & connection through the years.
In 2003, a young Jack Osborne first encountered Tairrie B when attending a My Ruin show at Highbury Garage in London.
The connection was immediate and infinite with an unspoken understanding that transcended the usual fan-artist dynamic.
Over the next two decades, their friendship grew, deepening into a strong bond and mutual admiration for each other which echoes in the cryptic language of this evocative timeless love song.
After attending many shows over the years, Jack was invited to join My Ruin on tour.
First as a friend, then as a merch man and part of the crew becoming an integral part of their journey and eventually singing on stage with Tairrie in cities across the UK, Paris and at the iconic Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles, Ca.
As Jack honed his craft, Tairrie became a musical mentor & champion.
Encouraging Jack to start his own band.
With an ocean between them, they sustained a loyal & solid relationship which has stood the test of time.
What began with a single encounter at a concert in 2003 has now come full circle as they become true musical allies in the studio.
Jack elaborates,
“I think the ‘Girl’ in the song was always Tairrie, we just didn’t know it until we recorded it together. We’ve both shared a love for this song through the years and whilst it’s clear Edwyn is singing about a love interest, for us, it’s not a romantic story but it is certainly a love story, with love and respect for each other and each other’s art. We wanted to create a sort of cross over of genres with the cover. Tairrie has so many vocal abilities, from rap to rock to spoken word and I think we cover a lot of ground vocally in this song.”
The haunting video was edited by Jack and shot at Asylum Chapel.
An enchantingly distressed & deconsecrated church creating a moody religious backdrop for the song & iconic visuals.
A beautiful crumbling symbol of a bygone era in Peckham, South London.
Alongside CTTV’s cover ‘A Girl Like You’, Jack lends a vocal hook on Tairrie’s witchy old school style interpretation of the song titled ‘A Girl Like Me’ on her latest solo hip hop album ‘past is prologue’.
A sort of call and response to one another over two unique versions of the same original classic.
Modern tributes with a female touch and respect to Edwyn Collins.

‘Viper’s Venom’

Call To The Void are:
Jack Osborne – vocals
John McGlade – guitar
John Settle – bass
Glen Bartholomew – drums

Mesmerising UK rockers, CALL TO THE VOID, have now revealed their anthemic new single, ‘Viper’s Venom’.
CALL TO THE VOID are an intensely intriguing four-piece rock crew hailing from London.
Fronted by Jack Osborne, with John McGlade on guitar, John Settle taking care of the groove on bass and Glen Bartholomew handling the beats, CALL TO THE VOID’s vast influences pan from Placebo and The Smashing Pumpkins through David Bowie, The Doors and Tool.
Taking their moniker from the French Expression ‘L’appel du Vide’, CALL TO THE VOID is the phenomena many experience when faced with a fearful height and the inability to resist the compulsion to jump.
Charismatic vocalist, Jack Osborne, adds:
“Like a dark secret so many of us keep, the expression has always called to me, with its eerie, taboo yet relatable subject matter. Control and impulse are so much of what makes us human.”
CALL TO THE VOID were revitalised in 2024 when new recruit and old friend, Glen Bartholomew, was drafted in on drums;
his addition not only solidified their line-up, but also helped refresh and energise their sound.
This can be evidenced by their explosive new single, ‘Viper’s Venom’.
The track was recorded at Bonafide Studio in London, and it’s a vastly engulfing cut that illustrates the band’s songwriting guile and deft ability to deliver a killer hook.
The accompanying video is also a crafty piece of eye candy, shot partly on the Balearic Island, Mallorca.
Osbourne elaborates:
“I really wanted to create a contrast between the dark subject matter and the visuals for the song. The sea and the waves are meant to represent the constancy of time, and ever-changing cycles of life as the song references nature, the days beginning and ending. The video is all DIY. We had family film us on two separate occasions whilst I edited the whole thing together. It’s been a labour of love.”
Further releases and content are planned for the remainder of the year, as well as the promise of a string of live performances.
CALL TO THE VOID are now in full flow, and nothing can stop their ascent.
