Boneyard Lily continues their run of single releases ahead of the upcoming ‘Tear Grinder‘ EP with the haunting new track ‘Friends After Dark‘, following their debut single ‘You Never Died‘.
The new song dives into darker and more intimate territory, channeling the brooding spirit of 1990s indie and alternative rock – particularly the melancholic, cinematic textures reminiscent of Suede.
Its lyrics take inspiration from the Swedish vampire drama ‘Let Me In’ (based on John Ajvide Lindqvist’s acclaimed novel ‘Let the Right One In‘), whose haunting atmosphere profoundly shaped the song’s emotional and sonic landscape.
Featuring guest vocals by rising artist pinjasofia, ‘Friends After Dark‘ gains an added layer of warmth and sensuality that softens its raw emotional core.
The result feels like a late-night soundtrack piece – perfect for the dimly lit days of autumn.
The band’s debut single, ‘You Never Died‘, was a delicate and deeply personal tribute to Jukka’s late aunt.
The track exceeded expectations, earning significant streaming traction in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Germany, and Italy.
After Finnish doom metal outfit Planeetta 9 went on indefinite hiatus in 2023, songwriting duo Jukka Salo and Sami Suominen cautiously returned to music following a year-long break.
They were soon joined by Antti Laitinen, a longtime collaborator from Jukka’s earlier projects.
Together, the trio set out to craft genre-free, beautiful, and melancholic music – blending shades of 1980s The Cure-style gothic rock, 1990s and 2000s alternative and indie rock, touches of Black Sabbath-inspired riffing, and the atmospheric indie tones of the 2020s à la Cigarettes After Sex.
The project’s depth owes much to the contributions of an extended circle of seasoned collaborators:
Janne Oinas (bass), Jere Saarainen (keyboards), Leo Kunnas (drums), Matias Koskimies (mixing), Matias Kiiveri (mastering), and Janne Saksa (studio & recording) – each adding their distinctive touch to Boneyard Lily’s evolving sound.
