Welcome to ‘Blodager‘…
Out of Gothenburg’s rocky Kungsten Studios, the four prophets from the plains of Denmark step down and prepare to preach to the people…
In their colourful chasubles, the middle-aged cavemen confess to their god Bissesvinet.
With them, the preachers bring a vinyl record with ten exalted visions, in the form of songs, about human folly and the futile desire for love.
The album is called ‘Blodager’, and will be released on November 8th, 2024.
Bissevinet is a brand new encounter between two of the Danish music scene’s most unruly offspring:
songwriter and singer Bisse and the experimental rock band SVIN.
Together they have created an expression that is electric and biting – like a blow to the chest – like a prophet’s divine revelation…
No one could have predicted the unique energy that emerged when songwriter and singer Bisse contributed to experimental rock band SVIN’s latest Danish Music Awards winning release ‘Introducing SVIN‘ (2022).
The result was the song ‘Bøn‘, which, based on the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes, is a sombre and desperate plea for people to ask for forgiveness for their sins.
In SVIN’s primitive and nightmarish music, Bisse’s lyrics are redeemed so that you feel for the poor prophet of doom in the song.
The collaboration whetted their appetite for more, and in December 2022, the four now self-proclaimed high priests travelled to Kungsten Studios in Gothenburg to record an entire album together.
Here, Mathias Glavå recorded Bissesvinet’s ten new songs directly to analogue tape in four days.
The collaboration was based on two simple dogmas:
Svin composed the music and Bisse put words to it, alternately shouting and singing them as he pleased.
This forced Svin to diverge from their typical instrumental soundscape, to allow space for screams and narrative elements.
On the other hand, Bisse was forced to rely solely on his voice and lyrics within a musical realm he was unfamiliar with and unable to control.
This artistic encounter, where everyone in their own way pulled up the anchor and surrendered to the rebellious sea of music, resulted in the ten revelations of songs that make up the album ‘Blodager‘.
Svin’s music is sensuous and dynamic with its processed saxophones, jagged strings and Thomas Eiler’s unorthodox, tribal drum syncopations.
It is at times chanting and monotonous, suddenly unpredictable – never far from outbursts of anger or sudden contemplative fervour.
With Henrik Pultz Melbye and Lars Bech Pilgaard’s pulsating ostinatos as the driving force, the listener travels great distances in the length of the songs.
Bisse’s artistic response to this wild, and in some ways ancient, music is drawn from the Holy Scriptures.
From both the Old and New Testaments, the false prophet paraphrases these marvellous parables and visions from the depths of ancient history.
And he does so as the devil himself reads the Bible.
More affected by Judas than Jesus, and with a lust and desperation that makes even the Song of Songs feel vile.
In painter Joakim Drescher‘s disturbing vision of an album cover the landscape of ‘Blodager‘is introduced.
A plain at night where ghostly, overgrown lizards flutter around in the sky.
The red earth is soaked in blood, the Danes’ detached houses are left looted and dilapidated, and hordes of mutated domestic pigs have broken out of the production halls and are now preying.
Together with the harassed survivors of an unknown disaster, they are on a journey.
As a small, peculiar entourage, they advance in this godforsaken night.
In their glittering, colourful robes – purple as the sunrise, blue as the sky’s lapis lazuli, emerald green and topaz yellow – they are not helpless.
They have seen the light.
They have heard the angels…
They are bringing an album.
They are Bissesvinet…
Bissesvinet comment:
“’Blodager’ is a place for the outcasts. In this bloody field, we stick our snouts in the mud and stir up all the cursed emotions of mankind. Join us for the outcasts, the unforgiven sins, the unholy and uncircumcised, the daughters and sons of perdition! We sing death laments for the strangers buried beneath our bloody ground and roar our anger, fear, scorn, envy, contempt, lust and hatred. We give vent to our shameful longing for violence, death and destruction. Let ‘Blodager’ become a place of pilgrimage for those who weep. Those who are bad yet wanted it well. Come to us! Let us unite! Come to ‘Blodager’!“
From February 8th – 22nd 2025, Bissesvinet will play their first tour around Denmark, the Blodager-tour, ending in Copenhagen at Hotel Cecil on February 22nd.
Meanwhile an ominous first single ‘Veråb‘ has been been released…
